Test results

Hi,

I’ve just had tests done as I’ve been ttc for over a year. I called up for my results today and the receptionist said the scan and swab required no action and the day 2 and 21 blood tests were negative. At the time I took that to be good news but now I’m worrying what she meant by ‘blood tests were negative’ ? I thought that the tests were looking to check that you’re ovulatiing properly etc, so would negative be a bad thing in this instance?!

Also, if the results are good, what happens next? My next appointment at the docs is not until December so I’ve got a bit of a wait!

Negative for what? Seems an odd way to phrase it, however we can't get results over the phone and have to wait for an appointment to discuss them, so at least you have one booked.

I would imagine you will get referred to your local fertility clinic next (and then be prepared to have the tests done again, and wait again for the results).

I just called again and got a different receptionist. She read out to me what it said on the notes and didn’t mention the word negative this time! But she didn’t know what the results meant, so is getting a doctor to call me to clarify later on in the week and to discuss the results. So at least I don’t have to wait quite as long now.

Are the blood tests just to check you’re ovulating properly? My swab and scan came back normal and so did husbands SA.

Usually the first tests are to see if you are ovulating, did they tell you your progesterone result?

No, as they didn’t know what it meant! Guess I’ll just have to put my mind off it now until I get the call. (Easier said than done!)

Look at it as there isn't anything you can do anyway, it won't change the results either way. All the waiting is a total nightmare, do you have things you can occupy yourself with? My top tip is to keep busy, doesn't make it any easier but if you can not think about it for a few minutes the break does you good for your mental state. Hope results are ok for you, how long until your appointment?

Thank you xx Should get a call Wednesday, so not long at all, but I think the last few months have caught up with me and my mind is on worry overload at the moment!
I’m going to do some exercise tonight because as much as I hate doing it, it usually clears my mind! And thankfully I have work tomorrow and Wednesday to keep me occupied. I think that’s the first time I’ve ever been thankful for going to work!!!
