Good morning all

Well, yesterday I went to visit my nan in Colchester. I had a lovely day but was crunched up in the car there and back, and also spent 3 hours sitting on a rather uncomfortable sofa! I was dying to put my feet up on the sofa but I didn't want to incase my nan didn't like me to! So I had to grin and bear it.

Anyway, on the way home I started to develop back ache. I've not had back ache like it before :| It was all across my shoulder blades, all down my arms - even the palms of my hands hurt. In particular my shoulder sockets seemed to ache! I was so worried but tried to just ignore it. I tried to go to bed but I only slept for an hour or so and tossed and turned because I couldn't get comfortable. I even woke OH up groaning in pain - I didn't even realise I was groaning! In the end, at 5am this morning I went on the hunt for paracetamol :( I just couldn't take the pain any longer and I just needed to go to sleep.

I feel so guilty for taking painkillers :( I know paracetamol is said to be safe for pregnant women, but I've only taken it once throughout this entire pregnancy and I feel guilty for my LO that I had to take it again. Can anyone reassure me I did the right thing?? :(

Thanks :)

Paracetamol is FINE! If you told your midwife about your pains she would tell you to take paracetamol and have a warm bath!

I've avoided taking it where possible BUT whenever i've been in a lot of pain i've taken it. Don't stress yourself out you did the right thing :)

paracetamol is fine, as been said, i have only taken once so far, and again today as i suffer from head aches really bad, expecially now i'm pregnant..

i bought a 4head which helps majority of time, but last night i couldnt even see properly, so went to sleep, and same happened this morning, so i had to take a few, like you i feel bad.. but dont because there totally fine.. hope your bks ok xxx

Wow, sounds like you guys are being very careful about how many doses you take.

is it not ok to continue taking the recommended dose if needed? I'm confused.

i asked my midwife the other week and she said paracetomol is fine cause i also get a lot of back ache - i have sciatica (sp)

xx

I have had to take paracetamol a number of times so far, in early pregnancy I suffered really badly with headaches and migraines and have also had trouble with a cyst on my ovaries that caused me alot of pain at one point and midwife told me to take paracetamol its perfectly fine to take don't feel guilty! I do try not to take it unless I absolutely need to im sure taking it alot wouldn't be recommended but if you need it then take it!

As long as you don't exceed the dose recommended on the packet then paracetomol is absolutely fine to take during pregnancy. Don't worry, if there were any evidence that it could do harm to the baby then you would be advised not to take any at all (like the new alcohol recommendations).

As the others have said Paracetomol is fine so dont worry atall!

paracetamol is fine, ive taken it on a number of occassions. there is no point having a pain killer that is fine to take during pregnancy & then sitting in pain! i saw a midwife at the baby show at borminghm & she said exactly the same as when i saw her i was doubled up with pain after sitting through a couple of the talks. dont worry about the fact youve taken it...

Don't worry about the paracetamol, as the others have said it is fine. I have refused to take it as it always makes me feel sick but have found that hot water bottles help with my back pain. Oh and if I whine at OH about any pain that seems to help too ;)
