I guys it's been a long time since I've been on here but two days ago our daughter bruised her forehead pretty badly and after the egg bruise calmed down it started to spread around her eye socket. No obvious sign that it's causing issues as she can see and balance fine so vomiting etc but we took her to docs just in case. I told the docs that at the time we didn't see it happen as we were preparing to leave to visit family on boxing day and she had just put her shoes on. Judging by where the bruise is and the part of the wall she pointed to soon after she tripped n fell but I think cos we weren't in sight of her when it happened the doc has said he has to report it. Understand this but naturally we are concerned as this wasn't caused by abuse or mistreatment so we hoped doc was just covering himself but then tonight get a missed call from a mobile no n so does my OH no voicemail left but when we ting straight to voicemail. Bit concerned really. Anyone else experienced this, what did you do? Was it just a phonecall or a visit? Kinda makes us wish we didn't take her in which is wrong as we are simply being concerned parents.

Look forward to your thoughts...

I’m sure he’s just covering his back and it’s just a follow up call/visit. To take positives from it at least they are doing their job for those children that do need the help xx

Hi Thanks for that. Things developed quickly with an unannounced SS visit yesterday morning where she met n played with our daughter then talked about the incident and our family life. 3hrs later we had a pediatrician appt at hospital over an hr away n after 6hrs, a full physical (Inc gyno bless her that was hardest part for me to see...) a blood test and sum photos bein taken we eventually drove home n transferred our shattered sleepin daughter to her bed. She's still waking up now so she won't b too sleepy. It was quite an ordeal bless her. Now we have to try to not wrap her in cotton wool whilst at same time teaching her to take responsibility for her actions. Just waiting for a letter now sayin what SS said to us that it's been confirmed as accidental and no further investigation required.

oh my god how awful for you all to go through. I hope you're all okay now? I'd be horrified if something as small as a bump on the head led to my DD having a gyno exam at 2 years old. I understand they're just doing their job which is a good thing but it sounds extreme

WT Actual F?? A full examination because of a bump?! Can't believe you've had to go through all that! Problem is, as good as it is that they are following up these things, it's also really scary for parents and might put people off taking their kids to the doctors when they need to! My youngest fractured her wrist 4 months back and they told me they had to report it but never heard anything since? Maybe you were unlucky and one of the ones they selected for a visit?! Hope you can put all this behind you soon x

Sorry that's absolutely ridiculous. You took her yourself for the bump. You weren't "caught out" by someone. I'm so so sorry you had to go through all that! I know doctors have an obligation to vulnerable patients and we all would never want child abuse swept under the rug. But to end up giving her a gyno exam over an injury you yourself reported is absurd. I'd have went absolutely mental. I feel the social worker who took your case went overboard here. I'm so mad for you! Hope you and the little one are doing well Xx

It does seem a bit extreme! You must of just been unlucky with who you got, sounds like such an ordeal for a bump you voluntarily went in with! Xx

Thats awful. It makes me feel sick that they examined ur daughter in such a way. I would have been swearing and cursing them, cant you take them to court for causing all this unnecessary grief and upset. I really feel bad for you all xx

WTF?!?!?! Honestly I have no words... They should be focusing their resources on children that are ACTUALLY mistreated and families that are ACTUALLY in need of supervision and help! I can't believe this! :hugs:

KHTW, but how do they actually do that without investigating these kind of incidents?
I think that they really could have handled this situation with a lot more sensitivity and it must have been awful for you OP, but if a report comes in from the GP or hospital then course they need to follow it up. There have been some dreadful cases of abuse and neglect which have resulted in children dying ( think Baby P and Victoria Climbie). In these cases the children were repeatedly seen by agencies such as doctors and there was a complete breakdown in communication between them and social services. They can

Grrr, post only half there. The rest said they cannot afford to let cases like those happen again so they have to investigate these things. Horrible but necessary.
