Symptoms but still negative tests

My wifes last period was 20/09/2010 and we have been trying to conceive this month. She has been getting many pregnancy symptoms over the last 10 days such as constipation, stomach cramps, sickness and tiredness - almost every day -and on Monday she noticed a very small amount of blood when going to the toilet.

Her next period is due on Thursday the 21st October so on the last 3 days we tried a First Response Early test and all 3 were negative. We tried a Clear Blue Plus this morning and still negative. Im worried now though with all her symptoms. Could she still be pregnant but not have all the HCG levels for the test to be positive? Or are we clutching at straws!

You are correct, it all depends on the HCG level, I would suggest you retest on the day she is due or day after if AF doesn't come, it could still be too early at the moment for a test to show, everybody is different.

All the symptoms sound positive too so I wish you all the luck in the world and hope you get your BFP

It does sound promising, although it is very tempting to test, hang fire, and wait to see if her period arrives, if not then retest, if you then get a positive it will be a lovely surprise, rather that getting stressed out by the negative tests.

If her period hasn't arrived and she still gets negatives then, a blood test at the doctors will be able to confirm a pregnancy that the tests might not pick up if she has lower than average hCG levels.

Thanks for replies.
Unfortunately it looks like her period started today.
So wiered with so many signs we were both convinced she was pregnant.
Needless to say shes gutted!

Sorry to hear that cybernetuk, but just think now you get to have more fun trying!!!! It was only your 1st month so your wife shouldn't worry, if she has a look around the forum she'll find lots of ladies that have been ttc for a long time, but you just have to carry on & hold on to the fact it will happen when it's time, as stressful & infuriating as it is

It's a toughy the symptoms of early pregnancy and AF coming being sometimes very much alike.
