hi everyone

as well as finding out i was having a boy at my 20 week scan i also found out the reason am struggling with walking, standing sitting and basically anything else is i have symphis pubis dysfunction,
my own Gp said it was normal ligament growth and gave me paracetamol, my midwife on the other hand gave me a tube grip and said see how i go and to wait for my phisio appointment
I was just wondering If anybody else has or has had this and how bad did it get?
am currently of work as my job is physically demanding and puts even more strain on me so you may see me on this a bit more

thanks
Pam x

hi hun sorry to hear you have spd  its not pleasant there are quite a few of us on here with it make sure you go to the physio appointment as they can give you exercises which may help and a belt to wear which minimises how much your pelvis moves when you move whcih some people find helpful they can also supply you with crutches which if you are struggling now im afraid as you get bigger you will possibly need :( i had to use them towards the end of my last pregnancy they will also show you ways to lie in bed etc to minimise pain and can offer some mild manipulation and hydropherapy if its available in your area
you can expect the pain to probably get worse but it does usually go within a few days of giving birth hope this helps xxxxxxxxxx

oh my god... i was told i have this too!

abut 2 weeks ago i was tld.... had a physio appointment this week which was helpful!!!

still uber painful and i haven't been at work now for about 10 days because it is getting harder!!!

it is very painful!!!! Feel for anyone else who has it!

i think i have this i am waiting for my midwife appointment this friday to mention it to her, sometimes i cant stand up straight as i am in so much pain and find it hard to walk. i think its a cert i am just wanting confirmation. :D

Hi Hun

Quite a few of the ladies on here have it or had it, including myself.

The physio didn't help me much but I didn't find out til late, as I'd put the pain down to the extra weight.

Good news is, it pretty much disappears after pregnancy. I can still slightly feel it, but no where near half as bad and I dont have trouble turning in bed or walking etc anymore.

Make sure you take it easy and get plenty of rest

Yes lots and lots of rest! If you dont need to walk somewhere then dont! Its quite hard getting yourself in that frame of mind tbh I struggled for a while but now I rest up as much as possible, dont stand on one leg ever (as in sit down to put on pants etc) walk slowly, if you can drive then drive even if your going round the corner, Luckily I have a downstairs WC and its been a life saver! Mine hasnt gotten worse! It did initially but then levelled off! I know as I get bigger etc then it probably will but I just keep resting! (at first you feel like a lazy cow but then get used to it lol  )
Things will probably get slightly worse when kids are back at school actually because I will need to walk more again :(
I sleep in a silk nightgown each night so when I turn in bed I glide over and it makes the world of difference! I also sleep with a pillow between my knees! The physio gave me a strap which is now no good as it digs in my belly but was great to begin with!

Can you not get your employer to assign you lighter duties? You have rights as a pregnant woman so I'd look in to them and see if things can't be done to take the load off you when PG. If your job is too demanding it can be considered unsafe and your employer should have done a risk assestment etc for you by now. That way they make it safer, transfer you or send you home with pay. Look in to it.

FWIW a fair few ladies on here have SPD. Have a search of the forum should turn up some old threads on it.

Very painful but as Hideilu said i didnt know what it was, 12 years ago i dont think even the doctors knew what it was
Anyway i was in a wheelchair for the last few weeks of pregnancy and in agony to the point i couldnt even get in and out of bed on my own but it did go pretty quick after birth :D

oh its awful! I had it in my last pregnancy and ended up begging to be induced because i couldn't cope with it anymore! I have just been told by midwife that i am likely to get it again in this pregnancy but at least i know what to do as soon as it appears!

thankyou for all your replies i feel a bit more prepared about what to expect,
My D/H hasnt let me do a thing since he found out i had it and he has been wonderful, but i had a fit of tears the other night because i spent the whole day in agony so stayed in bed because the toilet was upstairs and i knew there was no way i would make it up there in time if i was downstairs and just felt so lazy and useless.

I have spoken to work about my condition and they are completly understanding, but as i work in critical care as a Health care assistant there is no such thing as lighter duties as were on our feet assisting docs and nurses and things can get really busy really quickly. so at the minute am off on full pay if i continue to be off then they they will want to start my maternity at 32 weeks, we have come to an agreement for me to take my holidays at 32 weeks then go on maternaty.
I keep hoping am gonna wake up and feel fine am not convinced that is going to happen though :(

thankyou for all your advise and help it is much appreciated

PAm xxxx
