i'm itching to take Niamh swimming for the first time and we are planning to make it a weekly family thing. so i was just wondering when everyone took their little one for the first time.

also wondering if the floationg seaty things are any use?

:D

The sooner the better imo - makes it easier to teach them to swim ;) You don't need to wait till they've had their jags.

Personally I don't like any armbands, rings etc. I prefer to hold Finlay as he gets a feel of his body position in the water better.

Have fun!
Oh make sure you find a pool thats warm (around 30 degrees) so that your LO doesn't get cold quick. And take a bath toy as its something they know and won't be as unsettled.

We took Connie at 6 weeks. She didn't cry but she's very placid and nothing seems to bother her. We start baby swimming lessons as soon as she is 3 months as that is the earliest my local pool will allow them. We didn't bother with the ring with a seat in it and just old her.

The floaties float that is for 0-1 year only really fitted Baillie at 4-5 months. before that she used to slip too far into it and u could only see half of her face and the one arm that was sticking up in the air (it was a sorry sight  ).

Fits her great now though and once they are big enough the use it like a baby walker in the shallow baby pool  .

We took her as soon as she had her first jag. Remember to tell them its bubs first time because some pools let you in free :cheer: .

I took him for the first time at 5 weeks and I've never used one of those seat things, I prefer to just hold him.

both mine started lessons when they were 4 months, but I took them before just for a try. Best not to use any floats at first. and try them on the front and back. then build up from there. My 2 year 10 month old can now swim and hold on the side on his own, he jumps in and can hold on, turn under water, he loves it! My 6 month old is going under water held. Great to get them early on while they have the natural ability
