im due to have a sweep in 14days.
has anybody else had one? did it hurt? and did it work for you?
x

Hiya, I had one I was absolutely dreading it but it was fine, a bit nippy to begin with but not painful really.

I had a bloody show that morning and had the s&s at 12, when I got home I had pains all afternoon and then by 9pm they were five mins apart but not unbearable, finally went in at 3am and had Thomas at 10:18 the next day. I don't know whether the fact that I had a show that morning meant I would have gone into labour anyway, but I only got the pains after the sweep so I think it definitely sped everything up.

Good Luck

i had 2 sweeps and they didnt start my labour off i had to be induced.

it will depend if your cervix is faverable or not, when you have had it done ask the doctor if it was favourable or not if yes then you have a good chance of it working, if not they the chances lessen.

hiya,
i had a sweep and it didnt work not tryin to scare you but mine was painful but it might have been something to do with my midwife!! as she wasnt the friendlest of people!!
plus my cervix hadnt sofend!

Hope it works for you!!

I had one when I was 3 days over. It hurt a bit but not too bad. It worked for me and he was born 48 hours later. She did say that I was effecing already though.

Hi Ladies,

Please excuse the ignorance but what is a sweep?

I'm guessing it's something that's supposed to help induce labour for overdue babies?

Again, please excuse my ignorance but i've seen this a few times and I don't actually know what it is.

I'm still in the stages of TTC but am interested to find out anything i can.

many thanks

a sweep is where someone (it was my cons) examines you up there and then does what is known as a "sweep"
i found this online for you, sounds right to me:
the membranes that surround your baby are separated from your cervix. A midwife or doctor can carry out this procedure during an internal examination. It's been shown to be effective in stimulating labour and is now offered routinely to women who are overdue before any other methods of induction. It can be uncomfortable if the neck of your womb is difficult to reach.
i didnt find it too bad, didnt work for me though!!

Many thanks for the information.

It doesn't sound very pleasant though.

I know that's one thing i'm dreading, already went through a lot of internal examinations in my late teens after having suspected Endo. Wasn't nice, and rather embarassing. Although I suppose they see these sorts of things all the time. :)

exactly, its nothing new to them.
a sweep really is not that bad, i was dreading it after what my mw told me about it. when it came to it there wasnt really much to it, i would say i felt some discomfort but it was not anything bad and it was over before i knew it!!
