Hello

I have one or two questions, I would appreciate any advice...

We have heard so much about the joys of swaddling newborns (if they enjoy it). Can you put them to sleep whilst swaddled? If so, do they need another blanket on top?

Can you use sleeping bags for newborns?

Also, we have ordered a pram/pushchair all in one. http://www.mamasandpapas.co.uk/skate/ Because it is not a conventional stand alone carry cot, will we need a sheet for it (sorry for sounding daft) or do we just lie baby in it and put a blanket over them?

Thank you

If so, do they need another blanket on top?depends how cold the nursery is...but generally if they will allow swaddling then they don't need an extra blanket. Also you can pick and choose the thickness of the blanket for swaddling depending how warm it is

Can you use sleeping bags for newborns?I have a grobag and have been using it from day 1... lil miss prefers it to swaddling and its part of the nighttime routine which shes already picked up on.

I don't have exactly the same chair but something extremely similar. We put a couple of blankets down then a cosytoe over them, just so the straps dong dig into lil misses back...she seems very comfortable.. :D

I swaddled my LO after a week or so only because she wouldn't settle in her cot, she liked the snug feeling. I now still swaddle but leave her arms out as she likes to move about.

I was told that it would be best to use a sleeping bag at about 2 months but as I still swaddle I just haven't used mine.

Babies like to feel comforted, in the womb, they are compact, so swaddling will calm them down. It's safe, if you lay your baby down correct.

You know the Russians love this idea, I was watching a TV thing on Russian hospitals once and they were laying babies side by side, just lining them up, not in a cot, like all on some kind of table/bed, the babies slept without a problem.

weird huh

I still swaddle Joseph at times, he loves it.

Not all babies like swaddling - Finn goes mad if you tuck his hands in so I'd highly recommend a sleeping bag.

Arianna was exactly the same - still is even with her towel after the bath, her hands MUST be free!

We swaddled Ryan until he was too big for the blankets I was swaddling him in (moses basket size)... which was about 3 or 4 months old... you can just pick a blanket of the right thickness (we used a fleece one when it was really cold) or if prone to kicking the blanket off, put an extra one on top once you've put them down. Even though Ryan was swaddled, he'd somehow wriggle his way out of it in his sleep and get cold, so before we went to bed we'd chuck another blanket over the top of him :)

the same here jayde hated it and still doesent like a towel wrapped round she never keeps her arms in her pushchair she has to have them sticking out

Jenna has been swaddled since birth for all her naps & at night. We bought specific swaddling wraps (we got grobag ones but mothercare also do their own brand). Jenna's room never drops below 22 degrees and she wears a vest & babygrow under her swaddle. She is now almost 14 weeks old and we are trying to wean her into a normal grobag but she doesnt sleep as well as she wakes herself up flinging her arms around!
