Supply 4 and a half months in....

Hey ladies just wanting to draw down on some experience if possible.

C is four and a half months old. My supply seems to have settled down and I rarely get engorged. Is this normal?

Also I don't seem to be able to express as much as I used to.... I used to get 5 Oz in 15 mins now I am lucky if I get 2Oz!! Should I be concerned or is this related to my body producing what C needs?

He seems to be Having enough wet and dirty nappies so I am pretty sure he is getting enough. Xx

If I remember rightly I got worried when Harry was around that age about supply- but I came to the conclusion it's just your body settling down.

I have never been a big expresses but I certainly can't get as much as I used to do when he was young- however I do rarely express now tbh.

I didn't get too worried as like you we had plenty of nappies and he put weight on!!

Heh this was the same with me and health visitor said that's quite normal as now you and baby are more in tune with supply and demand if that makes sense lol xxx

Generally this happens around about 3/4 months, it's basically just your body has settled to what your LO needs. Next time there is a growth spurt it'll all change again. Xxx

Hi sweetie, I only just saw this. I had exactly the same thing - my expressing volumes plummetted to the ground when LO hit 4 months, and mine were poor to start with. I just expressed less (only once a day now) and fed more on the boob. She's still thriving at 6 and a half months with barely any solid food because she's BLW, On 75th percentile for weight. I'm slightly annoyed that I can't express much any more, and she still only goes about 2.5 hours between feeds, but it's ok. xxx

Its funny you mention this as my supply has been all over the place for a couple of days (A is 16 weeks) and I dunno if it applies if you are just expressing - but it does seem to be the same with me

I normally get between 8-10oz in 30 mins, the other night I got 2 .. yes 2 oz! Over a 24hr period I seem to get getting just a little bit more than he needs.

It amazes me that my body works the same even when he's not on the boob! When he was teeny I literally just produced what he needed before each feed, and when he started draining bottles my supply went up!

Thank you ladies, C is five months today and drinking like a trooper. My supply has definitely increased I am getting 8 Oz out of my morning expressing session- hubby does the first feed so I can have some sleep so I express when I wake up. Xx

Must be a growth spurt or something then?? Tilly must be draining you then, clearly your body is good at regulating in line with what Tilly needs because she is clearly thriving. Wasn't she only 6lbs 10? Well done Momma!!

C is tracking on the 50th centile, considering his birth weight was tracing on the 9th he is doing well. Plus the fact that Sri Lankans do not notoriously have big babies. Xx
