My baby is 6 weeks old and about 2 hours ago we noticed that the soft spot on his head was very sunken.

He has been quite grizzly, bit lethargic, but is eating ok, not vomiting, had 1 runny nappy but now seems to be drying up.

We've given him some water as I think he could be dehdrated and it goes up and down.

Is there anything else I can do? Should I phone the doctor???

not too sure as I'm so new to all this......yes I know I have a 7 month old!!
But I think it can be a little sunken, Dan's def is. But you have done the right thing with water as a really sunken one is a sign of dehydration. If he is eating well, sleeping well, thats a very good sign .
If you're really worried than make an appointment, thats what they are there for. Better to be safe than sorry

If you are worried then NHS Direct is fantastic, they are there to give advice.

They are open 24 hours a day

Baileys had a sunken fonatnelle, it goes up and down.. hv said, it does sink when they are due a feed, but if it remains sunsken after a feed then theres a smal chance they are dehydrated!

how is he today!

Thanks for everyone's replies.

sss, he is a bit happier today thanks, it is out at the moment. he has fed fine all night so shouldn't be dehydrated now. we woke him up every 3 hours rather than letting him sleep longer and he seems to be ok.

Will be keeping a very close eye on him today!

xx

I would agree Nikki. Tom's fontanelle is sunken sometimes so I give him a good drink of water. If you're worried though, call the NHS Direct...they are brilliant. x
