Any other mums had or have this at all? The hospital took swabs and it's come back as strep B.
They have put me on phenoxymethylpenicillin two to be taken four times a day?? Really unsure seems like such a high dosage!! Could anyone advise? I'm quite worried
Thanks x

:( guess not, I've had some reassurance now, so sure I'll be fine, noticed alot of my comments are ignored on this forum now, thank goodness for my Facebook June mummies page! :)

I have this hun and still currently pregnant. Found out when I was 28 weeks. I think?
I haven't been given and medication for it and said I will need urgent antibiotics when I'm in labour to stop baby getting ill... I have other issues to xxx

I was told that too, anti biotic injection during labour! Was very confused as to why they would give me them now, however I've been in touch with the midwife & it's due to me having a lot of discharge (sorry tmi) but I think it's just in case as is most things!
I'm sorry to hear about that hun, you've not long to go bet you are very excited! I'm also team pink :D hope when your little girl comes, you can get back to being well. Thank you for replying too xx

Oooo!! I asked midwife why some people have had tablets and I haven't lol. As I got a little worried but she said there was probably other probs to. Haha! She just quoted you hehe!
I have got liver probs, blood is clotting (they don't know why) and a problem on my butt, which I won't say cos it's humiliating but I'll be getting my decision about a c section tomorrow. Finally! I was starting to worry because if they didn't hurry up I think she would of made the decision for all of us. Haha!

Congrats on team pink!!! I'm so happy about being in team pink. For years I wanted a lil boy but the minute I fell pregnant I wanted a lil girl and knew she was a girl. Lol strange how it flipped.
How is your second trimester going xxx

I had this with my last pregnancy. I had to have iv antibiotics during labour, but they were supposed to get 2 doses in 4 hours apart. There wasn't time to get both doses in before he arrived so he had to do down to nicu twice a day to get iv antibiotics for 36 hours as a precaution. It was fine, I worried about it more when I read up on it, then when it actually came down to it it was ok. It can come and go though so they may re-test at 38 weeks and you not have it.
They've noted it down on my notes that I'm at risk of it again but so far testing has been negative. They haven't said what the plan of care is, but I'm presuming they will give my the antibiotics again during labour as a precaution (presuming they allow me into delivery in enough time) I will request this if they don't offer it to me anyway.

Thanks hun, it's nice to read someone who has already gone through it, kind of gives us a heads up xxx

Try not to worry, it's a good thing it's picked up because they will give you prevention to stop anything nasty happening. They should routinely test all pregnant women,, it's disgraceful they don't. Xx

The antibiotics during labour are so they pass to the baby and protect it incase it picks up the strep b during birth. In adults traces of strep b are common and generally harmless. It tends to come and go on its own. It doesn't require treatment in adults unless it's causing symptoms (like discharge) or is found in the urine which means it has cause an abnormal infection.

I think they are just being careful! Suppose rather they were being than not really caring at all. Thanks for the reassurance though ladies! I've got pregnancy paranoia I'm sure of it or I'm just bonkers haha!
I agree so much it is disgraceful they don't routinely test for it, I had a swab taken due to the discharge it thank goodness. I've also heard alot of good outcomes, but I guess on the off chance there will be bad! Hopefully they decide to check all pregnant women for it, as if it's just anti biotics at least it's getting treated.
I thought I'd be settling and enjoying my second trimester, I seem to panic about everything, I'm not feeling her move properly yet & haven't been able to get her heartbeat on the doppler but I am over weight & trying to do it by myself think I might need a hand with it.
So are they thinking about C section for you tigeress? Xxx

Yea, I've got something she can catch as she comes out so they are debating it, I should find out tomorrow for definite. It's been going on since I was 32 weeks so it's about time. Xxx

I think the debate for routine testing for strep b is complicated. Although there is potential for strep b to be dangerous for a newborn giving antibiotics to thousands of women in order to prevent one case in a newborn is less than ideal too. It's expensive but also could lead to dangerous antibiotic resistant strains and allergic reactions etc.

I got diagnosed with Gbs this week due tona presistant urine infection.
My midwife has told me to take probiotic drinks and supplements which will help with being on antibiotocs. To swim regularly as chlorine can eliminate the gbs aswell. I also need antibiotics every 4 weeks and during labour.

Don't even know what's happening now; finished the anti biotics & told no more yet.. didn't know about the swimming thing or anything else! Sometimes wonder if they just forget!

Must be a case of different areas give different advise. As long as we get the Antibiotics in labour as thats the most important thing.

Yes, apparently I've got a big sticker on my notes saying I have it! They take notes off all ladies here at 12 weeks and give them back at 20! Can't wait to see what's in there! X

I got my sticker in the post on wednesday with loads of leaflets and an appointment at the hospital to see midwife to talk about the gbs.
Wonder why its so different in each area.

Got my notes back today, basically the sticker says I have to be offered intravenous anti biotics during labour! I've got my 22 week check up on the 16th I will be asking her about it and what these anti biotics actually did if anything x

I had this, got my sticker on my notes! I had to have IV antibiotics during labour & my LO was totally fine. They kept a closer eye on her but everything was good.

You may not even 'have' it during labour but will get the IV antibiotics just in case. It's a good thing really! I have to have them in all future labours too. X
