i have just been watching neighbours and sky hadd the nuchal test thingy, and I don't think I had that, how come?

Not all hospitals offer it as routine, ours doesnt.

We were told if we wanted one, we had to pay to go private at Bupa, between 11-13 weeks preganancy.

xx

I read somewhere only about 7% of NHS hospitals offer it. I wasn't sure about the % risk that Karl said to be fair, it sounded quite high to me, but maybe that was with the increased level of fold that was noticed.

oh right! so not everyone has had one then, I thought maybe I had forgotten to have one!!! i've got my bloods tomorrow for downs and stuff and I am not looking forward to it as last time they collapsed my vein and had to give up, any tips on how to make my blood oozy?

whats that test for?

Which one babe? The nuchal? Thats for downs testing, they measure the clear space in the tissue at the back of the babies neck. It has to be carried out between 11 - 14 weeks.

I haven't had this either, had my bloods last week so think i get blood test instead same as you missac. To make you veins pop up does she give you something to squeeze in your hand, pump thisbetween your hand to make the veins show better x

Oh dont talk to me about vein prolems, mine are always commented on cause they are very fine and dont like to give up blood. I have been so bruised in the past from being stuck with needles again and again, to the point where they gave up with my arms and tried my hands and knees! Like the others said when they tao your arm to try to et a vein up, keep clenching and unclenching your fist to try to get one to stand out. Also tell the women that you have had prolems before and they will be a bit more carefull with you. When I had my booking in appointment I told my midwife, and she had a look and she said she would save me the discomfort of her trying and sent me round to the lood testing department to get a pro to do it! and they got one first time!

I have the same problem as you its a nightmare. Taking it from the hand hurts as well, but touch wood aint had to do the knees yet lol

well had my blood done and I was oozy today!! midwife was dreading having me and said she had had a good run that morning and didn't want a repeat of last time :rotfl: anyway got it first time!!

I tell you what - I would make a rubbish heroin addict!

we weren't offered the nuchal scan as routine so we went private and paid £150 great reassurance and we had 2 scans in one week which was great, it just means that we now won't have a 4d scan as we used the money for this instead. i have a feeling it varys at different hospitals though as im sure some people on here in the past had it done as part of there 12 week scan.
