Hello!

I was wondering what everyone thought about putting baby straight into a cot, and not a Moses basket or crib.

I have seen little inserts that go into a cot to make it appear smaller and more enclosed to the baby. I saw them once, and now I have no idea where... so if anyone knows what they are even called, please tell me!

x

Hey Ani,

I have bought a crib for LO but hopefully plan to move her to her own room at 5 months ish so also bought a cot divider (Called Safababy Sleeper) as it's a massive cot bed and she will still be small....

I got mine on ebay but there are also a few other sites that sell them....expect to pay around £25....

Cleo, you are a lifesaver!! Thanks. :)

Oops just realised this is not what I meant. Its more like a four-sided insert made of material into which you put the baby, inside the cot. Sorry, its really hard to explain.

I think its fine :) Just will look tiny in it is all.

Be aware that chances are your LO will want to live on you in the first few weeks and any ideas you have of baby sleeping in the cot will go out the window. They often like being held to sleep as its cosy and reminds them of being in the womb. A big cot can be an unfriendly place to a newborn baby who just wants to curl up and is not yet used to sleep sprawled out and on their back.

My LO used to always want to lie on his side and curl right up. Took a few weeks before he spent the entire night in his basket. Been in his cot since 6 weeks or so now :)

Also remember a cot cannot move round rooms as a basket can. Have you got somewhere you can put LO down if downstairs during the day etc?

Thanks Sherlock.

Our house is very small and DH was laid off work recently so it is just not practical to buy a basket as well as a cot. We just have to make do with the cot from the start. The stroller that I have is a M&P Pramette so I guess I could lie him down in there during the day. Its not ideal though, as it is not a proper pram base i.e. there is no mattress, it is basically just taut material.

Hope Galen is well! :)

HI Ani,

They have simular things to them in TKMaxx all the time so if you've got one nearby might be worth a look.

My baby went into his cotbed after 2 weeks in the moses basket which he hated!! I think he liked to see us form the cot maybe? But he definately prefferred the cot to his moses.

If you want a moses basket my BIL got one for a fiver from a carboot, brand new still with tags on!

Thanks. I think we will give the cot a go for a start and if he REALLY hates it, we will have no option but to buy a basket / crib.

I still havent found the insert I spotted online before... darn it! :wall:

Evie has slept in her cot since week 2- she moves too much to use the Moses Basket!

The only downside is if you don't have a cotbed you have to keep getting up and down! Good Exercise though! x

Nathan went in his cot from birth, wouldn't sleep in his carry cot so put him in his cot and he slept fine :)

Not sure if this is the type of thing you are after - http://www.additionsdirect.co.uk/rf/add ... Order=desc

Rachel, this is what I was looking for. Thank you very much! x

We were considering this but changed our minds after reading reviews. It's hard plastic and the mattress is not that comfy apparently.

Here's a moses basket for the same price:

Oh darn... :( So back to square one...

Unfortunately we dont have Boots here in Spain nor do I have the room for a Moses basket anyway. Thank you though, good to know.

ooo Ani... go to Carrefour... They sell these little anti roll pillows, similar to the ones you have linked (in either pink or blue you can find them in the baby section where all the baby blankets/bed stuff is)... I brought one for lil miss and she went straight into a cot too.. which we got for IKEA as it was the cheapest option for buying a cot in Spain :) tbh moses baskets are a waste of money.

Lil miss still uses her anti roll pillow. It doesn't have a head rest/support, just the pillows to either side but tbh, she never needed it when she was tiny... now is when its really helpful as without it she kinda throws herself around the cot and this stops her getting all scrunched up through the bars...

I can't remember how much it was but it was only around 20€ I think...
