So I am 4 weeks away and still so unsure of the name......I need help!

OH is Turkish, so has chosen Berfin (pronounced Bear-fin) for the middle name. I am not keen on it but after 7 months of fighting he isn't changing his mind so I've given in.

I now need to find a first name. Originally I wanted Elsie but not sure it goes with Berfin. Then I thought of Evie, but not sure I like it too much.

Anyone got any other ideas? Does Evie go?

I love Elsie and Evie and think both go x

I love Elsie, it's on my list for a girl but OH hates it.

Personally I prefer it over Evie with Berfin because I think Evie with the V sound is a bit harsher with the F in Berfin, if you get what I mean?! I like how the S in Elsie softens it. Not that middle names are used very often but it's nice to think of it as a whole name!

Thanks ladies. I'm open to other ideas too. Mum said Amy today and I quite like that, hadn't thought of it before.

I'm so undecided still aarrrrgghhhh

My friend has a little girl elspeth which is shortened to Elsie. Just an idea x

I'm still so undecided and I'm due in a week! I so don't want to just go with a name because I've run out of time. HELP!! What other names go with Berfin?

Mirren? Have a list of names you like and see what suits when lo arrives x

I like Elsie. What about Elise as a slight alternative?

To be honest try not to think too much about middle names going. When is your middle name ever used? I hated mine so went my entire life (until my wedding day lol) with no one knowing it. My hubby's dad died and we want his dad's name as our child's middle name if it's a boy.
Liam hates the name but I've reminded him that people don't ever use someone's middle name and generally forget it very quickly anyway lol

Go with a first name you love, don't worry too much if it sounds perfect with the middle name. You may find not many names do go with it anyway haha x

Thanks, the thing for us is the middle name will be used when baby is in Turkey and OH will always use it too. I have a few names on a list now, and will just have to make a decision when she finally arrives.

It really is such a cute middle name and sounds adorable by itself... So hard to put with a first name as we aren't used to it! Good luck hun!

Thanks hun, so far everyone I've told the name to screws their face up. Even I don't like it that much. But then OH says he family love it and it sounds lovely in their country. So it's probably like you say, it's just because I'd not heard of it before and aren't used to it.

xx

People have to bloody get use to it.

I hate that people screw their noses up and say 'oh no, you can't call a child THAT' when you are pregnant but as soon as the child is born they would never dream of saying that if you've already given them that name. It's so rude.

We haven't told anyone our name choices after the first few weeks of discussing them openly and getting sick of people's strong opinions. Half the people we know have children with awful names but we would never say that because it's unnecessary and hurtful. Wish they'd do us the same courtesy when we tell them what names we like lol

I have no good suggestions other than: If you let your OH pick middle name you can pick main name. That's what I did anyway lol xxx

I had some Turkish friends growing up, and one girl was called Birtac but she anglicised it to Bea, because she hated it and the other was called Meral, which I thought was beautiful.

I think you have to consider what your daughter will like or be embarrased about when she is older, and giving respect to her heritage does not mean choosing a name you don't like.

Sorry, just my opinion, but Berfin sounds too much like barfing. I got teased for my name at school and what it rhymed with. There are surely some more lovely sounding Turkish names?

What's your other little girls name? Ayla is a beautiful Turkish name,
I think it goes well with berfin too x

I do not like the Turkish name he has chosen, but I have no choice really. I won't be using that name and when she is at school or nursery or anywhere in the UK we will use the English name. OH will always use the Turkish name and so will his family.

There are some lovely Turkish names, I've sent him lists and list and spent months trying to get him to change his mind with no luck. I guess it's his daughter too!
