Zachary has got sticky eyes, it started on Wednesday night and they are still bad now. The midwife has told us to take him to the GP today so thats what we are doing, she says its quite common.

Did anyone else's newborn have sticky eyes a few days after birth and did they clear up? I dont like to see his beautiful little peepers all gakked up!

Yes my daughter had sticky eyes from about 4-5 days after she was born.
My Doctor told me to massage the nasal ducts @ each side of her nose (below the bridge of your nose) for 5 minutes each side.

Cleared up within a few days!

Aaron had it for a few weeks after he was born. He had blocked tear ducts on both eyes and I had to massage the corner of his eyes with a clean finger. As long as it is clear leakage then there is no infection but it's best to just get it checked in case. I also had to wipe his eyes with clean cotton wool and boiled water and new piece on each eye and just one long sweep along his eye to stop infection.

Ry had sticky eyes, his wasn't clear tho it was like a snotty colour bit yukky lasted about a week i think. i did the one piece per eye boiled water one sweep thing too, seemed to clear it up

hope it gets sorted soon

P.S congrats on the baby i didnt realise you'd had him already i dont get on much

I should have put cooled boiled water, I sound well cruel

Good luck hun! If it is infected they'll just give you a cream stuff you have to put in his eye. Not very nice but heard it works a treat.

Olivia had this too, dont worry hun all very normal.

I just used cooled boiled water and cotton wool, and wiped from the inside out, cleared in a few days :D

phoebe had it to hun i just cleaned her eyes as you are doing at it soon clears up  xx

both my children had sticky eyes, and breastmilk has been proved to clear it up, i used a tiny bit on cotton wool and it cleared it up within a day or 2,

i read it in my pregnancy magazine yesterday too so its still ok to do

Maddie had the same thing, and I was told breastmilk worked. I tried it, but I was also using cooled boiled water on cotton wool, so not sure which did the trick but it cleared up after 3 days or so!

LBxx

Cooled boiled water with a bit of salt added worked for Charlie.

jakob had it too and i did the above aswell worked a treat

I have heard about the breast milk trick as well.....

Thea had this when she was about two weeks old and i used breastmilk to clean it, worked a treat it cleaned up after a couple of days

Thanks ladies...seems this is a pretty normal thing!

Went to the GP and he says its not an infection just something that they get and to keep cleaning them as we have been.

They are so much better than they were, it was beginning to break my heart seeing his little eyes all gakked up!

Lennon had sticky eyes for about 2 weeks every day and we were cleaning it about 8 or 10 times a day
