Does anyone know if the nhs will still sterilize someone straight after a c-section?

Hi, I dont know but my friend had a sterilization straight after her c section so yes! X

I think my hospital do it at the same time as doing c section rather than after x

I would rather have it done straight after c-section when i am already "opened".

Maybe mummy, did your friend get to stay awake or was she put under?

I don't know about now but I know my mum had it done when she had my brother, she was under general for it though, can't see why they wouldnt.

Hi TundraOwl, so was your mum awake for the birth then under general for sterilization ?

Ohhh I dont know but can find out for you. I saw her later that day and she was fine though XX

This something I want to approach with my consultant as I need to go on medication for arthritis after having the baby and under no circumstances are you allowed to get pregnant on the meds as it is also a anti cancer drug. Does anyone know if it takes you longer to recover if you have both?

Does anyone know where I can get some more information on this and who I ask?
My fiance has said he will have a vastectomy but I know that these aren't 100% successful and Im afraid there is no way that I am ever going through this again.
I was on cerazette ( am allergic to condoms ) and had never missed one or taken anything that would have affected it and hadnt been ill. My fiance is happy to have one child and accepts that I cant physically or mentally cope with having anymore.

No she was under general for the whole thing, same as she was when she had me, not sure why, but she didnt get to see us until a day or so later, we were both emergency sections tho sue to placenta breaking down, mum is diabetic as well. My brother nearly ruptured her uterus, apparently when they cut her open her uterus was stretched that thin that they could see him through the wall

Thanks Tundra Owl for letting me know your mum's experience.

OMG that sounds really scary with your mums uterus being so thin.

Yeh that's why she was steralised, she had it rough with me, my little brother was a nice surprise but she was told it would be too dangerous to have any more. I'm sure they would do it whilst you were having a c section, would make sense rather than having to have surgery twice, I would definitely ask.

I was wanting this done so as to avoid another surgery after baby is here. After talking to my consultant though I am happy to have it as a further surgery because apparentely if you have the procedure carried out at the same time as a c-section the failure rate increases quite a bit. It goes from 1 in 200 to 1 in 20 because everything is swollen from pregnancy. I will be going in after to have mine done as knowing my luck I would be the 1 in 20!!!!!
