I have been breastfeeding for 2 weeks but one of my nipples is sore and cracked, we now have our latch sorted but one nipple is still really sore. MW suggested expressing and cup feeding from this side to give it a break and chance to heal. My question is I have sterilised all the parts to my breast pump but surely when I touch them to take them out of the steriliser and put the breast pump together I will unsterilse them. What do you ladies do? Many thanks xx

To me the most important bit that needs to be sterilised is the bottle you're expressing into

You're right once you touch them theyre in effect not sterile but I just make sure that I have clean hands before putting pump together etc

Don't worry about it- the main function of sterilising is to kill off any bacteria from left over milk x

Ps- have you got some lansinoh cream for your nipples?

Works a treat!

You only sterilise so far hun. Make sure your hands are clean when you use the pump and that the bottle you collect the milk in is sterile and you're good to go :)

When I was pumping I used sterilising hand gel before picking anything up, I still do now with his bottles.

xxx

thing is, you touch baby with your hands, so touching bottle, pump with clean hands wont be a problem xx

Never thought about it tbh just always had clean hands. Think the issue is milk bacteria more and that's less of a risk with EMB anyway

Clean hands! Also might be worth getting some nipple shields if they are too sore for you to latch your baby on. I used them for a while and they really helped when my nipples were sore
