Just wondering if anyone has ever had the blood collected from the umbillical cord and had stem cells stored, or if anyone has thought about, or planning on getting it done.

I was reading something the other day that made me think briefly about it and decided I need to discuss it with hubby.

I have no idea how it really works, whether it's painful for baby (or is it taken after it's been cut?) or whether it costs anything. As far as I can gather at the moment, I'm all for it if it can potentially save baby.

i think the idea is great if you have alot of money spare not for me tho just couldnt afford it

How much does it cost? The idea is great and I thought you could also donate the stem cells for research.

You have to get it done privately as it's not on the NHS. I read somewhere it costs about a grand for collection and storage for the first year and then about £50 each year after that.

It would be something I would be interested in if the costs were far more manageable.
