Steam steriliser's longevity?

My steriliser now takes up to 20 minutes before it goes off

Do you think this could be a sign of age? It was used for my neice before my LO. It's an Avent.

Anyone else's take AGES?

mine take 20 odd mintues to beep, but the green light goes off at around 10 mins?

mine is a tommy tippee one.

could it need de scaling? if not then i would say yes it must be a sign the steriliser has had enough!!

mines an avent one and its about 2 years old now and it takes about 10 minutes. I have just descaled mine again though and give it a good clean out ready for the new baby.

My Avent one lasted about 3mths!! I took it back and got a tommee tippee one instead and it just takes about 5min to steam and then 3min to cool - it has a little digital display telling you what it is doing -

H - heating up
S- steralising
C - Cooling

plus it has a 3,2,1 count down for 3hrs sterile time left then 2.... so on

mine is a lindam rapid steriliser & it says to de-scale at least every 4 wks.
but on front of steriliser it says to clean element weekly, is that de - scaling or something different?

Mine is avent, got lots of packs of citric acid with it, says to treat every 2-4 weeks...take about 8-10 mins but i had no idea the isis 24 kept them sterilised for 24 hours or we would of got that!!! we just thought it was mor expensive because it had a digital display!!! the tommee tippee one sound sgreat!

I have never de-scaled or done any posh treatments on mine, no wonder it's packing up!
