Called the fertility clinic today and they had a cancellation so I can get an appointment on Monday so go through the treatment (clomid) and get meds etc.

I know I have to start taking clomid on cd2 so I really hope af stays away until next week so we can start treatment this cycle!

Very excited but nervous!

Does anyone have any advice about clomid and what to expect? Will there be scams etc to monitor my ovaries? Any supplements etc that people would recommend to take with it?

Yay that's fab news hun! I didnt take clomid so not 100% sure what they'll do but they'll explain it all on Monday ☺ fingers crossed for you hunny xx

I don't have any experience with clomid but wanted to wish you luck for Monday!!

Hi,

I guess you’ve already started on clomid now, but I just wanted to let you know how it was for me if that’s helpful at all. I was advised to take them at night, so if you end up with hot flashes (I didn’t) or anything you will sleep though it. I also felt quite lethargic while I was taking them but picked up pretty soon afterwards. About a week before I ovulated I would get a migraine, but I am prone to hormonal migraines anyway and was able to take my normal medication when I felt one coming on.

Alongside the clomid, I had acupuncture, which may or may not have helped, I found it really relaxing, and the lady I used would spend about 20 minutes chatting to me at the start and it was quite nice to have someone other that DH to chat to. I also took folic acid, but no other supplements.

My main advice would be:
- stay hydrated
- keep distracted
- don’t put too much pressure on yourself

With other scans, I had a mid cycle scan to confirm whether or not I was ovulating, then on cycles after that I had blood tests, until they increased my dose and then went back to scans.

I’m nearly 6 months in to tests now to go back on clomid to try for #2, so I’m proof that it works :).

Good luck - if you have any questions then I’m happy to try and answer them.

Had the appointment yesterday, as it was cd2 I got to start the clomid same day! Officially started our fertility treatment and me and dh are on cloud 9 as finally feel like we have a bit of hope again!

Yay! That's fab news hun! Keeping everything crossed for you and sending you some baby dust! Xxx

That’s such brilliant news, I really hope it all goes well for you! X

Thank you so much for your advice Roo that was really helpful.

I’ve had a couple of people say to me that clomid is a waste of time and it’s just a stepping stone to ivf, I’ve tried to stay positive but hearing it worked for someone has really cheered me up!

We did 12 cycles of Clomid! Out of the 12 only ovulated 6 times. I took in the morning and didn’t have hot flushes I didn’t have many side effects the main one headaches but really bad ones just before ovulation which is when I least felt like BD but needs must! Good luck x

For the ladies who have done clomid, I am on day 5 of tablets today so last day and I’ve woken up with pain in my left ovary, anybody else had this? I know from the side affects my doctor listed abdominal discomfort is normal but then I googled and it mentioned over stimulation. Not a lot I can do but wait until my scan but I wondered what the other ladies experienced?

I don’t know anything about Clomid hunny but I get pain left side every time I ovulate. However if your scan is a while away no harm in calling your doc and asking. Good luck with the Clomid x

I’m pleased it was helpful for you, the only time I had pain was when a cyst formed rather than ovulation, they confirmed that at the scan though & it resolved itself, they did increase my dose after that.
I have a couple of friends with pcos, both also used clomid, one now has 2 beautiful boys (not twins) and the other has a lovely little girl, so it really does work, stay positive

So first cycle and I’ve overstimulated, I’ve got 7 follicles gearing up to release eggs so it’s just too dangerous to even think about trying. Absolutely gutted.

I was on a low dose, I don’t know why I’ve had such a big reaction to it.

I know it’s frustrating but that’s a good sign that the clomid is working for you, it may take a few cycles to get the dose right, try to stay positive x

Thanks Hun, got a doctors appointment on the 9th to go through ‘options’

I’m so upset, I don’t even know why, can the amount of follicles affect your hormones maybe? I feel like my reaction has just been a bit over the top, I was crying in a cubicle at work and then had full on snot tears on dh when I got home!

Dh keeps telling me it’s food at least I had a reaction and now they can just change the dose but I just feel distraught, like a failure. Maybe I’m just fed up of the whole journey.

Sorry for the overdramatic rant!

Over dramatic rants are very acceptable. How is something that is supposed to be so natural & easy so hard??

Maybe ask about letrozole when you have your appointment. They were going to try us on that of clomid didn’t work when it did, apparently it’s a bit gentler & there is less chance of multiples.

I hope your appointment goes well. If you need another rant then please feel free. I’m so hopeful this works for you. Rx
