As some of you probably know/remember, I had SPD from around week 26 of pregnancy and ended up on crutches and having accupunture and physio etc.

I REALLY hoped it would get better once I'd given birth but that couldn't be further away from how things are.

I'd dare say that it's probably worse than it was during pregnancy. Sometimes I wake up in the night/morning to feed Luke and I am just in so much pain, I want to cry. My pelvis feels like it is entirely separated and I have a constant ache right at the front. I also have a lot of pain in my hips and back still too.

I probably don't help myself because I go out most days and do a lot of walking, but that's just me and I'm not someone who can sit in all day long. I'd get really fed up and would be unhappy.

I know that it might take a while to improve, but I thought it would have improved at least a little by now, not got worse! :(

I'm sitting in the sofa typing this now and I can feel it so much. It's horrible. Sometimes it can take me a few minutes in the mornings to get myself to a point where I can actually stand up and then I'm 'oohing and aahing' from pain.

I've also heard that when you breastfeed, because the Relaxin hormone is still very much present, that it continues to play a part in everything being soft, as they were in pregnancy so that could be a factor too.

Has anyone else had SPD and suffered long after birth? If so, how long did it take to recover in full and what, if anything did you do to help yourself?

As a SPD sufferer myself i totally sympathise with you debbie. I never suffered to the extent that you did in pregnancy, i was in constant pain but could still manage short distances walking.

Now i am better than what i was during pregnancy. I notice the SPD more when getting up out of bed, sometimes it causes me immense pain i have to move so carefully. Walking is not so bad but if i do longer distances i can really feel the pull in my pelvis and back. I have to walk slowly when it gets like this.
Since the birth i have noticed a clicky feeling in my hips when walking, not sure what that is

Maybe you should try and get an appointment with the physiotherapist hun, see if they can help.

Cant remember whether you wore any of the supports, maybe try wearing them to see if they help.

Hi Debbie, I had severe SPD during pregnancy and like u I ended up on crutches. I expected it to go after the birth but it didnt, it slowly eased and when ellie was about 3months (a month ago) i noticed it had eased alot and now its more or less gone unless I overdo it or move in certain ways. I tried to take it really easy which helped but made sure i was excercising (mainly walking) regular. It takes longer due to hormones i think, the main thing i would say is time... mines not completely gone but only hurts sometimes now and is improving all the time

  I'm still suffering too.

tho i have bad joints in general. my shoulder has been partially dislocated for a day or so as well :wall: my pelvis is still v painful & cracks loads still.

i am convinced my joints are still very loose due to hormones & i'm not even exclusively bfeeding! my spd was also made worse by needing stirrups towards end of labour.

picking phoebe up makes it worse, especially when she is in her car seat. not that i can avoid doing those things!

so i too pray it starts to get better soon. its got to, right!?!

hope yours improves soon  wish i had more help for you!

Mine was awful for about a week/2 weeks after the birth and I cried when I walked etc. I was on crutches from 17 weeks. However after the 2 weeks it went completely. Physio said it's because I'm ultra fit

Hi sorry to butt in. Pregnant intruder alert! :D

I was diagnosed by the physio with an unstable pelvis/PD/PGP at around 19 weeks and asked the physio if I could expect to still suffer after the birth. He said that it could take up to 13 weeks for the pain to disappear as the body is still releasing relaxin up until that point.

Hope the pain eases soon for you all
