Hi

Isaac has started sleeping on his front and its worrying me to bits. Especially when he has his gro-bag on like tonight. He is flat out on his front and I'm tempted to turn him back over. Should I or are they ok to sleep on their front?

what do you do?

Lou :)

Rubie started doing this last night. I turn her back but am tempted not too. I would be grateful for comments on this too. I was going to post a similar thread :D

I personnally think its ok. I think its always made out to be bad because of risk of cot death so it'd be dangerous for a young baby but at that age I wouldn't worry. Reece has slept on his belly from about 7 months i think.

Hi

I remember one of the girls on this forum had a baby that slept on its front from birth and prefered it. I cant remember who it was now. I mean the thing is with Isaac now is that he is big enough and strong enough to roll over and lift himself up on his hands so he doesnt have the same risks that a newborn on their front would have and the mattress we have was the most expensive one from mothercare so its as safe as you can get but I'm still so worried he will go face down and not wake up to turn his head or something!?! Or get wrapped up in his gro-bag?!!?

Lou :)

Rubie can roll back to front but not front to back :?

same here kim, eva gets stuck on her front. I can't relax when she lies like that! She likes to be propped up on one of our big pillows so she is wedged in and comfy but they say you arent supposed to used pillows.

I don't know what is safer - letting her lie on her tummy (although she wont settle like this!!) or prop her up on the pillow so she can't roll. what do you think? she sleeps more soundly on the pillow

Braydon started doing this at 6 months wen i asked the HV she sed that he would be fine as they are stronger and can look after em selves more after 5 months

Toriella, I have a pillow in Rubie's cot to try and stop her from rolling. It worked for a bit but now she justs rolls on the spot!! I didn't think it was dangerous but I will take it out tonight as it doesn't work now anyway :wall:

Hi

Isaac only started rolling front to back not so long ago. I think if your babies got stuck on their front because they cant roll back over they would wake up and cry for you to help them. The problem once they can roll is that you then worry that they will roll back over onto their back and smack their head on the cot bars! Its one thing after another lol My friend has twins who are 18 months old and they are climbing out of their cots in the night!

Isaac just woke up and I had to go and flip him over! He must be too tired to do it himself. How's that for timing!?!

Personally I wouldn't use a pillow in Isaac's cot. He even pulled the cot sheet out from under the mattress the other night and had it over his face. He really loves having something near his face when he goes to sleep but I am adamant he is not having a blankie!

A few weeks ago Naomi rolled front to back a couple of times while on the changing mat, and then back to front once, but her arm got stuck.

Literally on her 6 month birthday, I put her down on her play mat, and she wouldn't stay on her back! She's started rolling over every chance she gets and drawing her knees up underneath her to crawl but she hasn't figured the arm part out yet so she's just lying there with her bum in the air and her face in the mat, grunting! She doesn't like it much but I figure the more frustrated she gets the more she'll be inclined to get her arms under her.

She's also started lying on her front or strangely in the recovery position in the cot. I was worried at first until I realised that if she is uncomfy she'll wake up.

I see from the thread that all the children are doing it around the same age. I'd say it's something that has to happen and therefore we don't have to worry!

Hi Sue

You summed that up nicely! Exactly what my boyfriend said actually lol Sometimes we just need to discuss it to put our minds at rest. Although between us I am tempted to sleep in Isaac's room tonight incase he needs me!

Lou :)

i would say its fine over 6 months my boys preffered it that way unless they have any problems id say leave them but its totally a personal choice :D

Yes Elliott is now doing this every night too and he's 7 months, it must be a 7 months thing then!

Alex has slept on his front from about 4/5 weeks i think. both my sisters girls are the same. he will sleep very lightly on his back & not for very long! he was a different baby once he slept on his front. he was getting the more rested sleep he needed. having said theat alex had very good head control and was holding his head up with just a little wobble from birth and could turn his head from side to side on his front. we also have a movement sensor pad which gave a lot of peace of mind.

i think once they can roll over then it would be ok to leave them. i jhave the opposite problem - if al rolls onto is back then he wakes up within about 5 mins!

i guess its a case of whether baby wakes if you turn them and whether you will get any sleep if they are on their front from worrying?

Ewan now sleeps on his front every so often, i tend to leave him, i just check and make sure he is breathing easily.
The other day i went in and he had fallen asleep face down with his head in his blanket, so i did move him on to his back then.
Ewan has a tigger teething blanket at night he loves to cuddle it to his face. but he doesn't have it during the day and he's never taken to a dummy. Ewan is 10.5months.

Phoebe has slept on her tummy since she was 5 weeks old and still does now.

I wasn't too worried. Just be sure to keep them cool and have lots of fresh air cirulating (i.e don't shut their bedroom door).

Phoebe has also NEVER slept with a blanket over her!! She hates it so I don't have the worry of her sufocating with that.

Of course any parent would prefer their baby slept on their back but I just went with the flow.

Once they can roll and move about (normally about 6mths) It's said to be safe for them to sleep on their front.

oh forgot to say that alex has had a grow bag since birth and he's fine with being on his front in it. doesnt get caught up at all.

Might have been me coz Damien always has, really helped with his reflux too. Damien still sleeps on his front now. And when they can roll the risk isn't high of cot death at all xx

Oliver can roll over now, at only 3 months. He rolls on to his belly as soon as i put him down. I moved him a few times but he sleeps longer on his front!

I do worry about it But from reading posts on here I knew some of your babies sleep on fronts.

what if they can't roll from front to back sami? Cos eva can't roll back once she is on her tummy. She gets frustrated and starts crying
