When you buy a Sky+ box does it need special installation/new wires etc, or do you just swap it for the old one?

It's ok, I found some info on it - something on the dish needs to be changed for the recording bit to work?

Another question though, at the minute our phone line isn't connected to our Sky box... if we got Sky+ would it need to be?

Can't believe they're gonna charge me £100 for the box then another £60 installation charge :(

you are supposed to keep the phone line connected but we don't , it wold mean having wires all under our carpet & wooden flooring coz the phone line is in the kitchen, its only so sky can send updates & stuff down the line, the sky man who fitted our sky + just told us if they ring us & tell us to put phon line in then do it so they can send you whatever they need to then take it out again
sorry if i went on a bit

We had to have an extra wire fitted from the dish into our house but it took 5 mins and there was no mess - we also don't have it plugged into the telephone port all the time - only when ordering stuff or if they tell us to ;)

Oh and we got charged for installation too (got box for free as we rang up and said we wanted to leave for virgin media ;) ) it is such a rip off - we made the 2 guys that came to install it a cuppa and they had everything done so quick it took them longer to drink their tea

we had an extra wire put in for sky+ and no we dsont have the phoneline connected either

Thanks everyone. Think I might ring up and say we're thinking about switching to virgin media

Go for it, you have nothing to lose. DH did it for us so not sure what he actually said, but he rang up saying we wanted to record programmes but virgin media's package was cheaper to buy and they said they'd give us the box for free :)

Do it!

You'll get it all for free plus free installation.

You don't need it plugged into your phone line the whole time, just for u[dates etc, the guy who installs it wil need to see it plugged in as it's actually in the T&Cs that it should stay in all the time (ours isn't though)

With regards to installation, another wire has to come from the dish to the box so you need them to do that.

they wouldn't give it to us for free & we've been a sky customer for 12yrs  we tried everything but they wouldn't even give us the £60 off for the installation :x

whats cable TV  do you mean freeview?

No cable, like virgin media or round here we have Telewest.

If you like in an area where you can't get Cable TV, sky are unlikely to give you a good deal cos you have no other options.

I rang them and told them I was going to get cable and they offered me free sky+ etc.

oh i'm not sure
going to ask around :D

we have just got a v+ box and its fab. a one off fee of £75 and thats it! paying the same a month as we were for our old box

Oohhh guess what???

I've got a bit of spare money this week so instead of trying to blag a Sky+ box for free I was gonna pay £160 for the box and installation, you know, do it the proper way

But anyway, I bought myself a new set of GHD's instead and was gonna wait to get Sky+. Then tonight when I was checking the online banking we noticed that the Sky direct debit this month was 3 times the normal price, so we just rang up and complained and they admitted it was a mistake on their part.

We said we weren't happy and wanted to disconnect so they put us through to the 'disconnections' department and they offered us Sky+ for free

It's getting fitted next Saturday, I'm soooo excited! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Still can't believe how much of a coincidence it was though  Now I don't have to feel guilty about spending the money on my GHD's

We tried that too but in a area where we have no other options, cant wait till i move into a area where i get the choice and can play merry hell with them!

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
My OH's parents have Virgin+ and i'm forever setting things to record on theirs... lol. I can't convince my mum it's worth it but when we move out we will SO be getting it! Lol.

BARGAIN! now you can enjoy your GHDs even more!
