Does anyone know why we're not supposed to sit with our legs crossed because we're pregnant - what does it do?

My MW told me at my appointment that I shouldn't sit with my legs crossed, I asked her why - she told me - it went in one ear and out the other - I can't remember!

Keep noticing myself crossing my legs, then stop myself - but not sure why?

Anyone know?

Is it because you're more likely to get blood clots & varicous veins? I seem to remember I heard it can increase the risk. Something to do with your circulation anyway.

I've just reread that and realised that it doesn't help at all...

Yeah i think its circulation too..
Maybe look it up on the net?

It sounds like only my MW who instructs this doesn't it, I've googled it and it says its to avoid leg cramps........so nothing too exciting.

My midwife said it to me too with jaycee...
She smacked my legs everytime she caught me doing it!

It's because pregnant women are high risk of getting DVT like you get when on a plane. I'd avoid it if you can! I'd rather not get a clot in my leg ta!
