Sit ups?

Does anyone know how long after birth you can start to do sit ups? I've heard 6 weeks, 6 months and 12 months as options!
 
6 weeks the say! but i read that you should start by doing other gently exercises, like lying on your back and pulling your tummy in, just to start to pull the muscles together first before doing situps cos otherwise they can stay seperateed and you can get a permenant little bump!
 
I've been doing those pulling in stomach muscle exercises x think I'll keep at those for another month or so then start on my sit ups x
