This morning DD had her first set of injections, the poor baby.

I refridgerated some ebm for her last night so she could have it from the botte today as i didnt want her working too hard, being a little poorly and all. I asked DH to warm the milk and feed her. DH put the bottle of milk in boiling water for 10 mins and the milk was really hot when i took it out and i had to cool it down.

Can i stil give this milk to DD or is it useless now? :?

Thanks.

The rule I was always told is that the bottle should be used within an hour of being re-heated, if you only expressed it yesterday then its still pretty fresh so as long as it smells Ok I would say you are fine  xx

If its put in boiling water and becomes hot, so much that i have to cool it down, can i still use it?

erm... i do this never thought i wouldnt be able to, il keep my eye on tthis thread :?

As long as its not left hanging around for a long time I would say its ok, depends how long it takes to cool down I suppose  xx

yes, it is fine. Depending on the heat it reached then some of the good stuff may have been killed but it will still be better than formula. We always went with the same rules with heated milk as with freshly squeezed - that it should be used within 4 hours.

The only thing I can think of is that over heating like that destroys goodness in the milk.

I've read that on various sites etc, not just one place. They usually refer to microwave heating but if it was in boiling water for 10 minutes then chances are it was a hot as a microwave would make it.

I'd do the old stand and wait thing and check it after a minute or two next time :)

Awwww

I think your OH just needs to understand that getting a bottle ready isn't something that should take 10 minutes and that he should wait around for it and it'll be ready within a few. My OH just stands and waits for a bottle to warm in hot water. If warming a bottle takes him 10 minutes chances are he'll soon learn to make it quicker when he as a screaming baby telling him how hungry he is

Don't forget to shake it well to make sure its mixed and there are no hot spots in it.

When we heat milk with boiling water it only takes about a minute to warm it through. We don't usually use boiled though because it breaks the chains that make some of the proteins and antibodies. But like someone else said (sorry, I can't remember who it was), it is still better than formula. Also, it is better to swirl the milk than to shake it because the shaking can also break some of the chains.

We usually just put a little bit of water from the kettle (almost boiled) into a cup or bowl and sit the bottle in it for a short time, but once in a while my husband runs hot tap over the bottle. I think this is a waste of water, though! Oh, and we also found that if we heat it in the storage bag, it heats a lot faster than in a bottle.

Where can i get storage bag from?

The bags I use are Lansinoh (?) and I have seen them in Boots and Mothercare, but they are probably available in most places that have bottles and things. They are great because they have two seals, can be frozen and have no BPA, which isn't necessarily dangerous, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
