Hi

I know there is a mountain of debate around what age you should start your baby on solids. I wondered what signs your baby gave that he/she was ready and at what age.

I've been reading so many conflicting articles :wall2:

Thanks,

Rose

Hi, well all of my 4 started waking in the night again after having been sleeping through for ages, worth checking that they won't go back to sleep themselves over the course of a week first incase just normal waking, but mine were ravenous and different times of night. They all did this at or approaching 4 months, kids are older and 4 mths was the advice anyway in those days 99/2001 and 2002, so I didn't wait with my last when he showed the same signs

Depends if you are planning to BLW, I did find that this didn't work very well at 6 mths after having started Traditional weaning so worth bearing in mind (maybee others got this to work tho)

I started at about 5 months cos Lizzie wasn't getting full enough on breastmilk - she would have a 6oz bottle of breastmilk and then still be hungry within the hour! I physically couldn't pump any more so decided to give solids rather than formula to top up her feeds. Just gave porridge and fruit/veg though.
We pretty much did TW then straight to finger foods - don't know whether this counts as moving to BLW but Lizzie is fine to feed herself her sandwiches lol!

Thanks - so there is traditional weaning and baby led weaning - i'd better get researching!! Don't really understand what the difference is.

Zac wasn't interested at all! I started trying him just before 6 months, but he only started taking solids at 6.5 months. TW is spoon feeding purees/mashed up food, and BLW is giving finger foods straight away and doesn't involve any spoon feeding (well that's the main difference anyway). I used TW, then introduced finger foods as well at around 7 months, but I wish I had done BLW. X

I started my LO at 4months because she just wasn't content. I remember one night havng to go up and down the stairs to get more milk, in the end she had over 10oz. She was drinking about 6oz every hour and a half but throwing it up because it was too much for her and was just annoyed all the time. I started with the odd bit of baby rice and she was so much more content. She didnt sleep through until over 6months though so that wasn't a sign with us. She just enjoyed her nightly feed lol.

Ah, thanks for explaining the difference - you've saved me time lol.

I have bought the Annabel Karmel books so i'll give those a read over soon. It's like being back at school - so much to learn!

My lo was not interested at all, but we have just started now,,, think he would have carried on with only milk forever lolxxxxx
