Hi! Quick question- baby is latching and feeding fine, some longer feeds, am some small cluster feeds- my milk is just starting to come in now which is great

However Oscar seems to be quite a windy/sicky baby/ midwife who has just come around isn't concerned- said its a myth that bottle fed babies are more sicky- just wondering if him bringing back up breast milk/colostrum after most feeds is ok?

It's hard because I can't see what he's taking in, only what he's bringing back up!

He was only born 00.52 on Friday morning so is a very new baby and is doing very well- just when he's on his back he's more prone to be sick too even if winded ?

Am I over reacting to what's normal ? It's frustrating he will spend 15/20 mins on the boob and settle in my arms- have some burping done, then onto his back in his Moses basket.. 10 mins later ... Sick!

Any advice appreciated xx

Midwifery should of told you babies are born with mucus, some worse than others. Sounds normal x

Yes, he's clearing the mucus - midwife should have mentioned that. My LO did it for the first few days then it stopped.

Try putting something under Moses basket mattress at the top to keep slightly diagonal, you'll find the mucus may irritate the back of his throat xx

Oh right! No nothing mentioned but I've been less than impressed on post natal wards etc anyway!

It's bright yellow - is that normal?

Thank you :D

Yellow is normal - worrying isn't it when you aren't told these things?? You will find that you'll learn so much over the next few weeks it'll make your head hurt!!

Yes! It's like I'm in tri 1 all over again haha x

I find holding baby upright on my chest for 10 mins after winding can help as she is sicky if I lie her flat too soon xx

Thomas is quite a sicky baby too and ebf. Try winding every time your baby comes off the breast and holding upright for 10 to 20 mins after a feed. I find this has helped me. Apparently they grow out of it. Normally when they are able to sit up on their own.

Thanks everyone ! I have started sitting him up after burping and find I get extra air up and also helps him fill his nappy!

If it works tonight and he sleeps like he is now I'll be a badly mummy lol

Babies do tend to be sicky, it isn't usually a big deal. LO turned out to have food allergies to what I was eating. My experience was that sicking up fresh, 'sweet' milk just after she fed was normal. Babies sick up as a form of overflow valve when there is too much milk or air in the system :). When she sicked up half digested sour smelling milk some time after she had fed is was a sign her tummy was upset and if that happens a lot it can mean something is not right. LO was 'sicky' but she also had other symptoms like mucus in her poo and trouble putting on weight.

Only had curdled milk once - it's usually just what's gone down

He has had his tongue tie snipped today and i thought that may make a difference but it hasn't really - if anything I think it's sore because he's only doing 5 mins on the breast at most ... Has only had 3x 5 min feeds this afternoon which worrys me but will see how we get on over night

He seems content with lots of wet and dirty nappies so can't be doing much wrong eh :)
