How common is it to actually throw up in labour? My friend had her baby 3 weeks ago and was as sick as a dog. I really hope I dont get this, the morning sickness has been enough (nausea.)
What do you guys think?????

I was sick in labour, but not too much. I was more sick after giving birth.

To be honest, it barely registers even when you are sick in labour - you've got far more on your mind at the time!!

i was really sick in labour with my son but was fine after with my daughter it was the other way round i was sick after but not during.

but then with all my pregnancies i have been sick constantly all the way through

I threw up towards the end of the labour and then constantly after, they had to give me an anti sickness drug when I went into theatre to be stitched up coz I wouldn't stop being sick :(

A friend of mine was sick too, at the beginning of her labour, she said it was because she kept forgetting to breath, something i can relate to too, my DH had to keep telling me to breath through the contractions!

was it due to pethedine? i've decided not to have any drugs but epidural because i've heard the injections (pethedine) can make you vomit...

x

i only ever had gas and air and was still sick but its become the normal for me in pregnancy

Yeah I heard it was the drugs too Hayley! I didnt think it was that common to puke during labour but perhaps it is?

For some reason i didnt think it was either..i must have been wrong

My midwife said that it is common to be sick in labour but gas and air may promote it abit more.

Im with you Hayley, the only pain relief I want is a epidural, dont like the idea of gas & air or pethidine

most people throw up because of the pain relef gas and air or pethiden but i throw up beforei had any just the pain was to much that i was sick every where and then after giving birth i was in so muh shock i was just being sick every were

Ah so its a combination of the pain and the pain relief. Are there any methods of pain relief that stop you feeling/being sick? Cant they give you an anti sickness injection?

I think they give you an anti sickness when you have pethidine

they gave me some thing before i had pethiden said it will stop me being sick, but it didnt i was sick every where and it was that green acid sick that realy burns and tastes horrid

my midwife was a bit*h so im glad i was sickall down her and all over the floor i loved seeing her on her hands and knees cleaning it up. thats what she gets for refusing me the epidural
