My lb turned 7 weeks yesterday and hasn't yet socially smiled. I've been waiting for it since 5 weeks and I'm beginning to worry a little. He was born at 38+4 and the HV said that in theory he is nearly 2 weeks younger than he is which probably explains why he's taking slightly longer to smile.

I can't help but worry though!

Tell me I'm being daft :-)

I read about this recently an how lack of baby smiling anywhere up to 12 weeks is nothing to be worried about and people instantly worry that baby could be autistic etc but actually they jut may not be ready to smile and just because people have it in their heads that baby's all smile at 6 weeks it's easy to worry when they don't even though it's perfectly normal and not at all rare for them to need a few more weeks.

My daughter (born at 36 weeks) smiled at 8 weeks. I wouldn't worry just yet. It usually comes all of a sudden, he may surprise you in the next few days!

Mine smiled socially at 9.5 weeks. Now he won't stop!!
Before he just smiled and threw up lol x x x

I have a very smiley toddler but we didn't get a social smile til 8 weeks old - and even then it was for one of her bloody soft toys!! I was so annoyed! Lol

I wouldn't worry too much. I can't remember when my boys first smiled but I know D, my first, smiled later than his younger brother. He also laughed a lot later. I remember I didn't get a pic of him smiling until he was 4 months. He's quite serious about things and although he now he smiles loads and laughs our family and friends always comment on it. We very rarely manage to get a pic of him smiling even now x

It's easy to say don't worry about it, but all us mums do it! You'll worry about this until he smiles, then it will be rolling, sitting up, crawling, walking and talking. All babies do everything in their own time and if he was early he may want be a little later with some milestones. I know that the wonder weeks say development leaps going by due date not birth date (although I didn't think my eldest tied in with them much for either!)
