I know i'm only 5w 4dys ish pg . . but I'm not seeing my doctors anenatal clinic for a first meeting about hight wieght health histroy etc till end of Jan . . .
Reading some threads, some of you have has 7 weeks scans???

Why not me - Doctor said i have to wait till 12-13 weeks??!?!?! WHY - its not fair?! :(

If my last pregnancy is anything to go by, I will be having a scan at around 7 weeks to see if bubba is in the right place as I have had a ectopic in the past. I think it depends on the area where you live, and your history as to how early you have a scan. Here if you have had no problems or problems with previous pregnancies ect the give you a dating scan at 12 weeks and then the big u/s at 20 weeks. They dont officially book you in with the midwife until 11 weeks here either. I think it totallly depends on where you live hun tbh. Im sorry I am not very helpful x

Down here I got booked in at 9 weeks to get me done before christmas, but normally all the paper work says 10-13 weeks to be booked in.

Hiya, firstly welcome and congrats. I am 11 weeks pregnant tomorrow (as I believe!) and I have got a midwifery appointment this Monday coming for the history and all that type of stuff. I wont have a scan (which I have found out today is the dating as well as the nuchal scan) until the end of January which will make me 13 weeks pregnant.

I asked the same question a few days ago before I got any scan dates, and I feel that ours are later in comparison. I suppose there are lots of emotions going around, and going to the doctors is about reassurance that everything in well and dandy. But different NHS trusts presumably have different ways of doing things.

When I asked my mum about it she said that she didn't have a single scan! It just wasn't done unless there were problems (my little brother was born 17 years ago). Can you imagine that, at least things have changed and soon you will see your little'un!

Thats true!!! :) I hope I don't have to wait THAT long though -13 weeks . . . i'm going spare already!!!

Hey

It's the norm to get a scan at 10-13 weeks. Some of us have scans earlier because we've had problems in the past.

:) xx

i had a scan at 5-6 weeks because i was bleeding, and have another on tuesday (6 and a half - 7 weeks ish) as im still bleeding.

scans earlier than 12 weeks are usually because of problems either in current pregnancy or past pregnancies

Firstly congratulations :)

Dating scans are done around 12 weeks as this is the best time to get the most accurate dates.

Scans done before this, early scans are usually done via the EPU and are because there has been a problem or bleeding and they need to check and see what is going on. Worrying times for women having early scans :(

So its not that you are missing out, most of us only had our fist scan around 12 weeks. Before that its only if there is a genuine medical reason for one. I was offered an early scan when I had bleeding in first tri but decided to go with the wait and see option as I felt that even with a scan, it would not change the outcome and if I was going to miscarry then I was of a mind that what will be will be. As it was things were fine and my son is 8 months old today :)

And it sounds to me, based on your ticker that your booking in appointment is about the correct time also. Usually not done until 8 weeks PG or so as before then there really is nothing to be done. Even at 8 weeks its only paperwork and sending off to book 12 week scan etc. Maybe bloods are taken, but they can be done later also.

So all good I say :)

I'm in Belfast and had two early scans due to severe cramping. My midwife appointment was just over 10 weeks and my first proper scan is on Wednesday which will be 12 +4 weeks.

Most ladies dont get a scan until they are approx 12 weeks, any scans performed earlier are generally due to the person involved having problems, whether that be bleeding or a history of miscarriage.....!! So its very fair that they have earlier scans than everyone else!

Yes definately, it is just strange not seeing a baby. You just have pregnancy test to go by and it feels unbelievable really.

sorry - i really didn't mean any offense by saying it's not fair . . I TOTALLY agree women who have had any problems in the past should be priority . I just mean't it feels like I'm waiting ages compared to others and thought I'd done something wrong in terms of dates etc . . . :(

When I was pg with Lydia they didn't do dating scans, so the only scan I has was my 20 week one!

With Alex I had 3, I had a 12 week dating scan, a 21 week one, and one in late pregnancy because I was measuring very large (they didn't give me photos from the third scan though, really he was too big you couldn't make much out at all.

Hi hun, sorry to say but if you have had an ectopic pregnancy then I would insist on having one. I have been told that if i was to have any subsequent pregnancies then I must be scanned at 6 weeks approx to check that baby is laying in the right place due to myself having a previous ectopic pregnancy.

With regards scans generally its better in the long run not to be interferred with as generally the early scans are internal ones which aren't very pleasant and it without sounding horrible things still can go wrong.

Congratulation on your pregnancy and have a happy and healthy 9 months.
Scan will be here really quick.
Take care
Kathy

I had a scan at 7wks because I was bleeding - please don't feel like you've 'missed out' - it was one of the worse experiences of my life waiting to find out if I'd miscarried or not. I had to wait 4 days before they could fit me in for a scan. Although it was a magical experience seeing Tidge's heart beating, I could have done without all the stress of an early scan.

I had my booking in appt with midewife at 9 wks (it's usually between 8-10wks)
Then my scan is booked for this Friday - which is 13wks

Thanks . . I guess it's just wierd going from bfp to nothing for ages!! i totally realise how stressfull it could be and to be honest, i'd rather not be in that position . . so i'm grateful for a 12wk one . .
hope all goes ok on Fri :)

I was really disappointed when I went to my new doctors to say I was pregnant and to find out what happens next and the doctor just said to make an appointment with the midwife in about 3 weeks - and that nothing really happens until then. Then when I saw my midwife she made my next appointment for 6wks later - again I was a bit gutted. I dunno what I was expecting but more 'hands on' care than that. I guess pregnancy is a naturl thing and they don't need to keep checking everything...

Looking forward to my scan on Fri but I'm worried too. I haven't had morning sickness for 2 days now (although still feel a bit yuk!) and don't 'feel' pregnant. Not sure what I expect to feel but will be good to know there's still a baby in there and it's not all in my imagination.

The appointments do get more frequent as you get closer to your due date. And especially if you go overdue you should get at least one a week. At the beginning they are very sparse it's true, but there's not really any need for them to be checking you every 5 minutes if there's no need for concern.
