Should he pay the fine??

I voted No too.

Would have been different if he was swearing in a park near a childrens playground or where lots of children are around.

Haven't the police got more important things to do? Like fighting crime!!!!!!!!

 I'd be bankrupt if I got fined every time I swore. I can't even do a 10p swear jar, let alone £80.

No he shouldn't pay it! I bet if he was swearing in a foreign language he wouldn't have been fined

Hmmm, how loud was he swearing? were there any kids around?
Did he say to his friend "look at that F****** B**** of a policewoman"?
He'd still be talking to his friend but insulting the officer at the same time.

Going on the basics of the story I'd say he shouldn't have to pay the fine, BUT these things always have more to them that it first seems.

I work as an AntiSocial Beahviour Investigation Officer, so no comment, cause you will all hate me..... But I enforce the law with the Police...

Oh KX I wish you lived near me...there's some right ASBO needing little chavs round here!

Hmmm I'm in 2 mimnds. I swear, have a terrible potty mouth
Argh.gif
but I hate other people swearing when there is no need for it. Its hoprrible when you are out and all you can hear is someone effing and jeffing in front of you. The fine is quite steep, perhaps a warning may have sufficed? Like Urchin says, we don't know the full facts.

Manchester is the ASBO capital!! Urchin are you getting hassled?

They don't hassle us at all, but we have a big green in front of where we live and they sit and smoke dope and drink and generally leave a big mess behind them wherever they go. My OH has been out there last year and it's got a lot better.

Oh, and don't even get me started on those mini-bike things

Should contact your local council-littering itself is asb let alone dope and drinking, and those mini bikes need a license, Police love confiscating them!!!

Sami with reference to the poll, if there was a group f-ing and c-ing when I was walking past with Rebecca I wouldn't like it especially if she ever came out with it (too young just now tho) - but I am a hypocrate cause I use the words f*ck sake or f*ckin hell a lot!!

Oh is it the council I need to talk to then? I presumed it would be the police and didn't think they'd bother coming out to be honest.

Has the world gone mad!!!

I was parked outside my brothers high school yest around 3.30pm waiting for him to get his butt out of school (hes always last to come out) All the kids start walking out of school and walking past the car shouting at each other calling them all the words under the sun. I was gob smacked! 11 year old in their little school uniform looking so sweet, until they open their mouths

I voted no though he shouldnt have to pay that fine. If thats the case then they will soon start fine-in everyone for swearing (and i have been known to swear a bit  )

On another note I know its not linked but I think that its so stupid that your not aloud to sing 'baa baa black sheep' anymore!
The world has gone totaly crazy!

they do a second verse now - baa baa white sheep then something about a farmer with holes in his socks

Yeah Urchin, your local council will have an ASB Team that deal with those sorts of problems.x

I think if walked past someone f-ing away or saying it loudly then fine, but £80 is to steep for using the word in a private conversation. I swear a fair bit but not loudly.

The lad should of got a warning first, you don't see drunken yobs slapped with a fine straight away do you? They get a warning first. The police should find better things to do with their time than let their power go to their heads. :shakehead:

I he f-ed at the copper or someone, then fine, but a private conversation is something altogether different.

K X is manchester really the ASBO capital? i have lived in Stockport (manchester) all my life and i have never came across anything bad like that personally  Heard alot on the news though.

I voted no, but if he said it quietly enough how did the police hear it?! they don't go ear wigging in people conversations so they must have said it quite loud.
I wouldn' t like to hear that in a public place especially with my parrot daughter!! she copies everything!!

Yvonne my OH used to live 20 mins from Stockport in a place called Glossop! We used to go out in Stockport or Stailey Bridge (sp).

Yeah Manchester is the ASBO capital, but look at it a good way, least the local council is doing something about the asb problems, every place in the whole of Britain suffers from some sort of form of ASB.

The worst place is Mosside (sp) and East or West (cant remember Gorton? I love Manchester, nightlife especially.xxxx

Sami police have to abide by the new ASB laws and enforce them, maybe they are known to the police, had previous warnings etc, I can't comment as I just don't know the history...

yeah i know Glossop, and i love Manchester night life, it's just the getting home that makes the night a bit of a trek!!

Don't get me wrong, i am always really jubious about going out as you know all this stuff goes on, but i have never witnessed or experienced violent or abusive behaviour, (Must be one od the lucky ones!)

I agree that it is the polices job to protect people from unwanted behaviour or language, but they are always too busy getting invloved with petty stuff, but they are never there when something happens and they are needed.
(well round here they are not anyway) but we have rangers that walk round this area as extra protection i suppose.
