i got a poll card thingy through the door this morning telling me where to go to vote for the london mayoral elections. do you have to vote or is it like optional? sorry i must look really stupid asking this but i just have no clue.

No you dont have to, but you really should.....women lost their lives in the fight for women being allowed to vote so I vote purely out of respect for that. Imagine what the country would be like if women still couldn't vote!

You can easily check out the candidates policies etc, just google their names 
Vote for who you truly think has the best ideas, who you think would represent your area the best etc.

I could never bring myself to vote for ken ...............labour 
not to mention the congestion charge. But I don't even have a vote so doesn't matter what I think!!
