So AF arrived again this morning - I’m focusing on the positives as I find the stress of not knowing either way particularly difficult, so at least now I know we’ll be trying again this month!

However, since I came off the pill (about 6 months ago now) my periods have been very light and very short - 2-3 days with barely need for a tampon after 1st day. I’m worried that this may mean I’m not producing a thick enough lining for anything to implant. From BBT and OPK I’m pretty sure I’m ovulating, but should I be worrying about my periods? I’ve found a lot of conflicting information (as usual) on dear old google, but wondered if any of you guys had any experience or advice as to whether it’s likely to be an issue. I don’t want to go to my GP yet as I know it’s still early days really.

Hey Em, sorry to hear about AF!

I'm new to TTC as well (off the pill in November) and have the same thoughts. I have always had a 2 day period and the second day is so light that a liner suffices for the day. It has been the same for me on and off the pill. I have a GP appointment next week, so I might just ask and see what they say :)

I spoke to a fertility doctor and he said 2 days of bleeding is fine.

Me too! Got off Paraguard in December and my bleeding has been 2-3 days. The first day is hardly anything and then bam, it's heavy for a day and a half and then ends.

I wondered the same thing because on Paraguard, my periods were at least a week long and very heavy.

Maybe it's just our bodies adjusting. Let me know what you find out if you go to the doctors!

Em...my cycles were always between 23-25 days and i would be very light for 2-3 days only really needing a tampon for day 1 and sometimes day 2. I am currently 8 weeks pregnant and have 2 other children. Hopefully youll get there too soon x

Hi I have never been on any contraception. I used to have heavier periods, 2 days of heavy bleeding and then tapering off for another 5 days. As I’ve got older my periods are lighter I now have heavy bleeding for 24 hours and then spot for the rest of the days... I think it got lighter after I had my daughter 5 years ago or could have been a coincidence. Definitely feels like a proper period though and much prefer them now they’re shorter!

That’s reassuring - thanks Molly41 :)
Pupperino, keep us posted on what the doc says!

That's good to know :)

Happy to update what my GP tells me. I suspect she will say its fine as it has always been my "normal." I'm quite a slim build, so that might be a factor as well. I also suspect that she will say that it might take a while for my cycle to normalise after coming off the pill.

My research thus far is that 2 days is fine. It's a short luteal phase that might be a problem. I have some decent OPKs for next month, so I can hopefully pinpoint ovulation a little better!

Em, please try not to worry. I'm 39 and have had super light periods since I was 14. I've never even had enough to make wearing a tampon possible. I could easily go the entire three days, if you can call it that (wake up day 1 to blood on wiping when I wee, all gone by midday on day 3) only wearing one normal always ultra. I don't for hygiene reasons but it's pretty wasteful of towels that never have to do much.

We started TTC in June 2017 and conceived immediately, literally the first month with only dtd once during the fertile period. It ended in a chemical/early loss at almost 6 weeks but even then, I only needed a few towels that never got much on them but a fair amount when I wiped.

Next two cycles I had another two chemicals, each time I bled less than the previous so I was referred for recurrent miscarriage investigation as scans confirmed the pregnancy and losses.

In my head, the whole time, I was convinced that I must have low progesterone as it's responsible for thickening the uterus lining from the moment of conception. After the losses, we took a break for a month then didn't catch the next cycle, but after that, dtd once during fertile period again, managed to control my urge to symptom spot and test way too early and I got my sticky BFP. I'm now approaching 20 weeks and the midway mark. Starting to feel baby despite anterior placenta and everything is going great.

I still believe that I never lost much blood because my body, having been pregnant, kind if knew it had to do something but it took a while for my hormones to join the party and raise their levels. I never, my whole womanly life, had even the slightest period symptom, pain, warning, mood swing...until after that first loss and they got more pronounced (apart from mood swings thankfully) with each new cycle.

Stick with it but don't be afraid to talk to your GP about your worries. A quick blood test at the right time can check your hormone levels.

Wishing you lots of baby dust for 2018. Xxx

When I came off the pill my periods were really short, I had 4 cycles in 3 months, and each time I only bled for 2 days max. I had one round of acupuncture and my next period was 3/4 days long and I caught on after that, oh and I took baby aspirin too. So hard to try figure out our bodies isn't it! Lots of luck X

It’s really reassuring to read this thread as I’ve just posted a similar question (I hadn’t seen this first lol!) mine used to be 4-5 days before the pill and yesterday I think I had a 6 hour one or something?! Today there’s nothing!
