Hi there, as the title suggests I was just looking for opinions on a routine on Christmas Day - my little boy is 3 months settles fantastically at night after bath, bottle and story (if still awake) he sleeps from 7 until 7 with a feed and nappy change at 10 - we have been invited around to my aunts in the evening (it's just along the road) they are desperate to see my little one, I just wondered if it would matter if we didn't follow our normal routine for one day, I don't want to undo all our hard work?

Hi I don't think one night will disrupt his routine but I'd imagine he would be very cranky if woken up to go visiting? Or would he just be asleep in his pram or car seat at your aunts and transferred back to his cot?

If it helps your decision, we are hosting Xmas this year so my LO keeps his bedtime and we're not allowing him to stay up later x

I would do it, yeah it might disrupt it a bit for a night or 2 but it might not, I think it's worth it for a special occassion xo

Try not to worry too much about it. It's a special occasion and babies still young enough to not let it bother him too much. Just enjoy yourselves x

That's what I was thinking - it is Christmas after all, I just didn't want to disrupt his routine too much, I think we'll just play it by ear and if not too cranky we'll go along, just need to make sure he naps during the day which might be tricky with grandparents fussing over him lol. Thank you.

I actually find it quite nice now. Normally Christmas Day is so busy and crazy but my 18 mo still needs her nap so you get a couple of hours to chill. Other than that playing it by ear sounds like a plan :)

We are going to my mums in the day so hoping can get lots of naps in and chilled out for her and to SIL for the evening, we bath alternate nights so will have bath Xmas eve to save time, taking travel cot or snuz pod top there as will put her down in nieces room until we leave around 9-10pm, she prob will be a but disrupted as won't settle when there are lots of people/noise etc. at ours Boxing Day so hoping will be able to keep her relaxed and catch up on herself.

My LO was in exactly the same routine as yours at 3 month, I was so paranoid of breaking that routine and I still haven't to this day but I have taken him places with me and put him in a travel cot at bed time rather than his own and missed out the bath and he still settled well, I think they are quite adaptable, and one night won't ruin all your hard work xxx

Hey, we had a similar routine from about 6 week's and just as LO started to settle into it and a 10 weekst we went on holiday. We were out every evening with loud music when he would normally be sleeping. Not a problem. He alway slept right through when we got back to the hotel room. Even when we got back to the UK with jet lag (we went to America) he got straight back into normal routine from day one.

So you should be absolutely fine to break routine for one night!

I don't think it'll hurt his routine, as long as they're aware that your little one will still probably want to sleep rather than play. Otherwise he'll get over tired and probably just cry.

It will be fine. My little boy has visited his granny every frisay night since he was. Few weeks old and we don't get in until 10 or past that even sometimes. It's never effected his sleep - we just make sure he has a lie on the next day

Keeping to our Lo's routine is a priority to us. It is so engrained in him, he reminds us when it is time for what. If we try to change it, he gets upset so for a happy and enjoyable Christmas for everyone, we keep to his routine!
