hi, is anyone else a carer on here? What do your manager/boss advise with patients/clients that are prone to falling on standing transfers?

I care for a lady who lives with her parents, but she wobbles/falls atleast once in every shift. I’ve had no risk assessment, as I suppose my employer has no idea that it’s needed as she’s never had a pregnant employee.

My concern is that the lady I look after will grab me if she wobbles or falls and it hard my back, and hurts my hernia.

I'm not a carer but I work with young children and my manager needs to do a risk assessment with all pregnant people. There are certain rooms we cannot work in due to children with severe needs who may kick off etc etc. So I'm imagining your employer would need to do the same in terms of making your job as safe as possible for you? There should be policies regarding this maybe contact hr or something? Even making sure you have someone to help you or take over for you if needed? Xx

I'm a carer but in a residential I had to have a risk assessment but was basically told do what you feel is safe. A risk assessment is a legal requirement whilst pregnant. If your client is prone to falling and it puts you at risk your employer must make adjustments to eliminate the risk or provide suitable alternative employment. If neither is possible you should be suspended on full pay until the risk is dealt with. There's lots of help and advice available. X

I am a personal assistant. I just work for this lady and am employed by her family. It’s awkward as her parents are elderly anyway. I keep saying if she falls she mustn’t grab me as She’ll injure me.
My last job I worked with disabled adults, but their treatment to me was awful, and in hindsight I wish I’d reported it.

They are looking for another carer so hopefully they’ll find one sooner rather than later!
