Had my 6/8wk check with doc yesterday and i got my pill prescription (cilest), same one i was on for yrs prior to conceiving... Ive been on it so long that i need reminding....

Do i need to wait til day 1 of bleeding before starting to take it ? I cant remember if i did that at the start or not.. Plus as mybLO is 7wks old amd we breastfed for a few weeks (now 100% formula) do i need to wait and have at least 1 "proper" period before i start?

I didnt think to ask doc at the time, stupidly... And i rushed appt as LO got fractious....

X

No you don't need to wait. Taking it on day one of bleeding just means it's immediately effective, otherwise you just have to use other methods for the first week. But after birth, you'll ovulate before your first period, so you shouldn't wait...

I got my prescription yesterday at my 6 week check too - and doc said I could start taking straight away even though my period just finished, lol.

That is good to know. I will not be breastfeeding due to medical issues so I want to get back on the pill as soon as I can. I have 4 packs left over from before TTC. I read somewhere it can help dry you up. Hoping this is the case.

I am guessing I have to wait until 6 week check before taking them again? Or is it something I can talk to the midwife about after birth.

Sorry for jumping the gun, I am a planning freak haha

No you either start 3 weeks or 6 but no later or you won't have 'immediate' protection. I wouldn't wait to start but just be double cautious on the first strip x

There was a nurse who came round the hospital ward the day after I had her to talk about contraception. Talk about being organised! I had to start on day 21 after delivery.
