I'm in Canada and Kai is on reins occassionally, especially in busy places as he is just all over the place.

They really seem to be a negative thing here, bordering on cruel with some responses I have had.

What are people's views on this?

thats so strange, never had any negative comments and i use them all the time as i habe to get the bus and wait by a busy road, one or two people have joked that he looks like he'd be off if he didnt have them on (which is true!)

cant see how its cruel to stop your child running out of sight somewhere busy or into a road. they can be off so fast and i find it much harder to hang on to his hand - he is very good at getting that out of my grasp  !

just ignore people's silly comments - Reins are something we use to prevent nasty things happening to our babies - how is that cruel? :D

we were at a tennis tournament over the weekend, and on Saturday we didn't have the reins and it was a complete nightmare, Kai was everywhere, we were both exhausted. Yesterday we had them, and things were so much better, he was walking with them but we weren't forever chasing him.

one day I was looking for a GroBag in a baby shop. I asked if they had any, the woman looked totally clueless about what they were and when I explained about it, she said it was cruel as you are restricting their movement as they can't be free  Needless to say we won't be going in there again. I just give up lol

I've had the same sorta comments but I think its kinder putting him in reins than having him pinned under a car.... It's only until he understands he cant run onto roads

Dylan will have some when he is old enough..rather they are secure than an accident happen.

ignore what others say :shakehead:

it's rediculus that people see it as a negative thing! they are a fantastic way of keeping your child safe, wether they are little angels or litle devils, all children run off to look at something or someone, it's normal.

 It's just such an obvious thing to use

We have the usual reins, the little life rucksack type rein and also the wrist strap which seems the best at the moment as he can walk alongside me and swing his arms still without much restriction.
The wrist link/strap only cost £1.00 for Ethel Austin, if you want me to send you one let me know!

Reins are brilliant, anywhere in europe and america/canada it seems to be taboo, when we take ella to spain to see her grandad people laugh at her being restrained, we dont use them anymore but i also have these which ella loved
