Hi,

Quick Q - if my baby brings milk back up after feeding should I carry on feeding or is it a sign they're full?

Thanks in advance,

Katie

I've found it could be either! My baby will bring up a little undigested milk straight after feeding sometimes and this tends to be because she's had too much - she'll have let me know at the end of the feed she's not interested in eating more too.

But sometimes if I lay her down too quickly or she's otherwise just got a bit of reflux she'll bring up more and it looks more curdled and digested (sorry to be gross :P) and this tends to be when she'll get hungry again soon after.

So annoyingly, it's hard to know...but going by how much they fed, how much they brought up and if they act hungry again soon is probably the best way to tell!

I tend to give her a few minutes sitting upright then see if she starts rooting again. It's pretty easy with my baby, because when she's full she puts her bottom lip out if I offer her the breast again, but roots manically if she's still hungry!

It is normal for abit of spit up. Reflux usually has other signs- arching back, pain, crying and being sick upto 2 hours after feeding and discomfort when doing so.

I tend to wait a few minutes and see if he is still looking for more, generally speaking if I put him to the boob and he doesn't want any he tightly seal his mouth shut and refuses to latch on x
