DH and I have been invited to our favourite Argentinian steak restaurant tonight and I'm wondering if its alright for me to have a well done steak? I've been avoiding eating too much red meat since getting preggy, but everyone has said if it's not at all bloody then it should be fine. It's a shame though because I sort of prefer a medium to well done, not charred to a cinder, but perhaps I should ask for it thoroughly cooked?

yes you'll be fine with a well cooked steak - plus, the iron will do you good

its load of crap.. the only thing u can catch from beef is worms.. i eat mine rare..ul be fine carla.. p.s u jammy cow. ur out everynight at some fancy place!!

I was told that undercooked red meat can put you at risk of toxoplasmosis????

Usually the only thing you can catch from undercooked red meat is worms or certain types of illnesses such as e coli if the meat is handled unhigenically....toxoplasmosis is carried in a spore from faeces, usually carried in the hair of cats.

Pregnopaws I would order your meat well done....mainly because in Argentinian resturants in Spain well done usually means...shown the meat the flame and actually let it touch it for 2 minutes.

Its your chicken and eggs you really want to make sure are well cooked as salmonella poisoning is much more virulent.

I still eat the odd meduim/rare steak. I'm sure if it's a reputable restaurant where you know the meat is fresh, it shouldn't be a problem

Yes, apparently there is a risk of toxoplasmosis and a form of E.Coli bacteria which can cause blindness, poor growth, mental ******ation, feotal infection and premature birth. Think i'll have mine well done after reading that!

My midwife advised me to order medium or medium to well, but said these would be fine.
