I've just got kieron dressed and noticed he's got a rash on his hands (looks like little bites) then noticed it on his legs aswel. He's been a bit off for a few days and had diarrhoea last night which I put down to teething. Anyone got any idea what it could be? I have started washing his clothes in the same wash powder we use but been doin this for a few weeks now so surely it can't b that?

Not sure, but I know allergies can take a while to build up sometimes so could be the washing powder, but then again if it's been a few weeks is less likely. Have you changed anything else? Perfume? Shower gels etc?

Not sure what to suggest. Can you get a pic up? I had urticaria (?) during pregnancy and it's bloody horrible!

Thinking about it, my allergy to ranitidine takes 2 weeks of use before it comes out so defo could be the washing powder xxxx

I got him an emergency appt at docs and he thinks it's viral (couldve diagnosed that myself) it's faded in some places but flared up more in others now-gonna change his nappy and strip him off so I can fully see were it is-il try and take a pic x

Best I could get-he's a v wriggly baby lol

It looks alot like when I had a reaction to ranitidine. Think they call it urticaria or something (hives basically). I had it twice in my pregnancy because they refused to believe it was the medication and put me back on it grrrrrrr

Both times it started after 2 weeks of taking the medication. The red bumpy rash would start say on my arms, then move around my body. The first time I had it it lasted a week-10 days and it was just the rash, the 2nd time my whole body swelled up and I was 7 months preggo by then. My lips swelled out so bad and my whole face looked bizarre and again the rash spread around my body. I won't lie it was painful too.

Both times I had to have steroids and anti-histamines (sp?) to shift it.

If baby seems out of sorts he could be feeling the rash, I'm not sure if you can use camomile lotion on a baby but if that's the rash I had that did help alot and maybe try bathing the welts with cool cotton wool. I had to sit in a cold bath, it would make the welts really come out, but it cooled my skin alot.

Sorry if this freaks you out a bit, esp if that isn't the same as what I had!

Hope Kieron gets on ok xxxxxxxx

calomine? lotion, sorry can't remember what it's called lol

Well he's still got the rash except 100x worse! It keeps comin and goin but took him to walk in centre today and doctor there was really nice and is 90% sure it's just a virus. And basically aslong as he stays well in himself then I don't have to do anything else with it and it should clear up within a fortnight xx

Aw bless his heart, hope he's better soon, horrible seeing them not themselves. Glad docs aren't concerned xxxxx

Thanks-he's absolutely fine in himself, just looks like a red n White dalmation (docs description lol) I keep callin him my spotty dog <3

Why do kids worry us so much? I'm so glad I've got the sensor mat for the monitor cos otherwise I wouldn't sleep tonight, even tho i've been told twice it's just viral there's still that doubt in my mind and I expect him to get ill any minute. Xx

i wouldnt trust wikipedia sorry not being funny but when i was doing my nurse training we couldnt use it in any of our assignements because it wasnt a reliable source try nhs website x

I had hives a few years ago (was hospitalised for 3 days cos of it) but I'm
pretty sure it's not that, although the rash looks similar it's not bothering him (wen I had it I could scratch my skin off)

It's faded off a bit now but dic did say it can take a fortnight and it's only been 4 days-he did say it could b linked to his immunisations but is just a sign that his body is fightin it xx

Yeah I ended up in hospital and on steroids, first time I was about 4 weeks preggo without knowing I was, and 2nd time I was 7 months preggo and kept having to have baby monitored and was begging for steroids because anti-histamines did jack! And I would scratch myself stupid with forks and stuff lol, anything sharp would be used as a scratcher til I bled sometimes. Naughty! Weird thing was though, 2nd time when I was 7 months the rash didn't go on my bump at all!!

Hope it clears for him soon, good that he's reacting to the imms. That's exactly what my mum said to me coz Oz's reactions got worse after each lot and she just reassured me that at least he's body is building up anti-bodies.

xxxxxx

Had my ex sis in law round today-she's a paediatric nurse and doesn't think it's a viral rash cos it's not presenting itself as one-she's took a picture and is gonna show it to paediatric consultant at work on thurs to see what he thinks it is x
