Question for breastfeeding mums

For weaning, do you use expressed breast milk, or formula to mix with food?

I can just see it being quite unpractical expressing lots of milk all the time - especially if i'm not at home.

I don't often get much milk when i express anyway, only about 3oz in the morning.

I used breastmilk once, then formula but when I eweaned her properly I didn't bother with baby rice as she was 51/2 months and we used the baby led weaning approach.

Is Finlay used to taking formula, it tastes very different to breastmilk so if he's not used to it he may not like it.

By the way he is the most gorgeous baby ever, I love your avator it makes me smile.

Thanks, beanie. I do intend to continue breastfeeding Finlay but I think when I eventually wean him I'll use formula, mainly for convenience.

He has had formula milk a couple of times, and he started off having formula milk for his first couple of days as i was struggling to b/f. I still have an unopened tin of formula i never had to use in the end as we got the hang of it after that!

I am BF and am weaning at the moment. I started Ellie at 4months. I started initially with 1 meal at lunchtime with baby rice and mixing with breast milk. We are now on sweet potato mixed with breast milk, and baby rice. We have also tried some apple, pear and butternut squash. TBH we are only using small amounts of expressed breast milk it seems easier (to me) to just express of what I need than to figure out what on earth I am doing with formula. Also one of the things I am gathering you need to watch out for when you start weaning is allergic reactions to things and you should only introduce something new, one at a time. If you introduce formula at the same time then that will be 2 things.

I'm still breastfeeding and once Oscar started on solids, I just mixed his cereal with formula. He doesn't really like it on its own - prefer boobie, but using the formula to mix was a great convenience.

Hi

When I weaned Olivia I used full fat cows milk in her ready brek etc then just boobie fed her as well as her meals. I'm still breastfeeding now but Olivia has 3 meals a day and snack so her feeds are small and not often at all.
