Hi

My LO is just over a month old and just changed her nappy and what looked to be a liitle bit of blood in there (like maybe little lump but not lump if you know what I mean) she has been straining quite a bit lately (she wont get her wind up, it always builds up and then it seems like she forces it out) is any of this natural or shoul dI contact the HV or hospital?

thanks

sorry hun im not really sure if ur really worried can u ring NHS direct?

it is probably from the strain but i would defineately contact the hosp or HV as they do say contact them on any amount of blood. Dont panick im almost positive its nothing but 1)best to get these things checked, 2)it will put your mind at ease and stop you worrying.

Sorry if iv panicked or worried you as iv said its more than likely nothing i just think its always best to get advice from the hosp/HV

  let us all no everything is fine and dandy chick like it will be

phoned nhs direct who said it sometimes happens but to contact a MW or HV tomorrow to get it checked

:(

When my son was this age he had the same thing during nappy changes a few times i was told by doc and health visitor and midwife it was perfectly normal, something to do with when they are born they have some excess blood in their system and it comes out when babies wee.

It soon stopped and there is never any anymore :).

Jakob also strains alot when doing a poo and it can take him a while sometimes but he is better now but the blood was nothing to do with that (which initially I thought it was).

I would get it checked out as blood in the nappy can also be a milk protein intolerance. Leorah has this and had fissures (tiny cuts up her bum). She would always have a hard time doing a poo. Tankett also had a LO with blood in the nappy and it was something else that isn't serious. I always think its just best to get these things checked out :)

Oh yeah of course sorry i didnt want my post seem to look like "it is that and dont bother getting it checked out" . This is just what Jakob had so was more to try and ease some of your worries and say it could be entirely normal.
I really should of added on the end of my latter post to still get it checked out, to be on the safe side :) .

Oh no Cassi I didn't mean that you gave bad advice  I hope it is just what you have suggested but you know all the hassle I've had with Leorah's poo
