I have been getting quotes for photo sessions, but I am not sure what prices to expect, really. I didn't have a wedding with a photographer, so I have never hired one before. What is a normal price for a good, non-retail photographer?

It depends. Some will charge you a sitting fee, some won't. Our local photographer charges well over £100 for a portrait. We got our pictures done by Pixifoto and were very pleased with them.

Im not keen on using pixifoto as they wont let you have the images on CD so you can get copies. We used a local photographer to have a family portrait & some other shots done, we got around 20 photos on CD for £100 and then got them printed ourself
