She just has no interest in the spoon now. I don't know why :( Unless it's yoghurt, cereal, porridge or jarred/pouched food she just doesn't wanna know. As soon as I put the spoon towards her she just seals her lips I don't know why, I've tried loads of different recipes etc :( I'm not keen on doing BLW all the time just don't know what else to do :( xx

Have you been mix blw and puree until now? How old is lo maybe she prefers feeding herself have you give her, her own spoon just to play with? Do you all eat together my son always ate more when we all ate together?

It might be because you have been doing a bit of both and she prefers to feed herself. She's then in control of the food, Kynon hates me spoon feeding even a yogurt we have to load the spoon and just deal with the mess! Try to think of it as from her point of view, would you want to be spoon fed if you have done it yourself before? They just want to copy us and learn themselves. Maybe keep giving her finger foods now, I find it quite easy most of the time and save the really messy stuff for tea time when I know he's going in the bath!

Jack has some of his food on his tray to shovel in with his hands and I have the rest in a bowl and spoon feed him mouthfuls in between the shoveling. Maybe if she's distracted by the food on her tray she'll take it from the spoon without realising? x

I think I'll try blw a bit more with her as she definitely seems to prefer it. I just get really panicy when I see her shove a huge mouthful and when she gags I automatically assume she'll choke :( what do you usually give for lunch when blw? Oh and me and OH are having mac and cheese tonight (homemade) am I ok to give her this? We never add salt to our food anyway so that's not an issue. Shall I just pop it into her tray? Wifey I eat breakfast and lunch with her almost everyday but we usually eat after she's gone to bed but I'll give it a go tonight :) x

Kynon had home made burgers we cut it into strips. It makes me panic a bit sometimes too, Kynon has stated shoving loads in and swallowing without chewing or sucking so sometimes gags and makes himself sick so I've been careful lately to not put too much down at once, cut it thinly and I've not given stuff that don't go soggy easily. So some meats I've stopped for a bit and harder fruit and veg until he stops this cramming it in and not swallowing phase!

For lunch we have things like sandwiches, pitta bread and humus, pasta, salad, cheese toasty, fruit, just whatever I have really!

I'll try with her this afternoon for lunch. What sort of fillings do you usually give? Sorry for all the questions lol x

Kayden has been doing this recently too. We've been spoon feeding for a cpl of months but giving hand food for lunch time last 4 weeks or so. Now he tries to grab the spoon but he just waves it about & tries to play rather than eat, I wouldn't mind him spoonfeeding himself but he's not getting anything in his mouth when he tries.

I want to let him do more for himself but he isn't able

:wall2:

How about you give her her own spoon to try feed herself while you are feeding her with your spoon?

I've tried giving her the spoon herself but she just throws it around and gets frustrated with it :S I'm just about to try her with a sandwich, not sure if they're allowed ham and stuff like that so just gonna use Philedelphia and see how she gets on xx

I went with cheese spread to start then used normal cheese then introduced ham and things, prepacked sandwich meat can be quite salty. We did sandwiches pasta or eggs most dinners when younger then made a proper tea so he still gets veg and meat with yougurts and fruit inbetween.

Well she ate 3 whole fingers so I think she just wants to feed herself. Gonna try her with macaroni and cheese tonight :) x

Can we come to urs for tea lol, I love mac and cheese. Some kids just like to be independent. Try not to worry about the gagging its scary but harmless and normal, you will soon both get used to it. The best thing about blw I found is I get to eat my tea while lo feeds himself.

Well I think you're right there hun cuz I had a slice of bread with her and I really exaggerated my chewing and she chomped it up well. She gagged twice and I had to fight to stay calm but she was fine. I gather she'll be fine with just normal macaroni? X

Long as its macaroni your making not shop brought as can have a lot of salt. I cook pasta a bit longer so its softer.
I put whatever I have in into a sandwich really. We rarely have meat in as we're vegetarian apart from hubby and he's away a lot and only eats tea! He likes tomatoes or banana sandwiches!

Yeah we make pretty much everything from scratch and we never add salt to our own food anyway really so think it'll be ok :) be interesting to see what she makes of it

Glad she did well with the sandwich hun! Ethan has the reduced salt dairylea in his or I do cheese on toast, sometimes with pieces if pepper on too. I did do pizza toast with tomato and cheese but he didn't react well to tomato puree. I give him banana or tins of fruit as well- he loves peach slices and mandarins! Pitted prunnes are also a favourite and keep him regular! Lol! I also do cucumber sticks, eggy bread, scrambled egg etc- it is scary when they gag but they r learning and their gag reflex is triggered much more easily than adults! Hope tea goes well- we r having cauliflower cheese- let the mess commence! Lol xx

Ah OH just told me he's made the cheese sauce with semi skimmed milk will that be ok just this once or shall I not give it to her??

It will be fine, they say full fat because it has more goodness but wont do any harm. Glad ur doing ok with it, the gagging does get less try not to panic cos you will just scare lo. Hope tea went well too. It wont be long till ur feeding her Sunday lunches. I have a pic of lo's first one, I was so proud.
