I had a private scan on Saturday at which point I was 34+1 however she dated me at 35+3 and estimated weight at 6lbs already...! I know they aren't always accurate but just wanted people's experiences on whether these estimates were accurate for them?

My lb was a big baby and broke me (!) so this news has made me more anxious.

MW said they won't give me a growth scan unless fundal height is out of whack at next weeks appt which it won't be (though am on higher centile).

Thanks x

In my area everyone is given a 36 week growth scan - it showed that baby is measuring on the 94th percentile and estimated to weigh 7lbs 12oz! My fundal height has always been spot on for my weeks. I'm really hoping baby doesn't grow too much in the next two weeks. My daughter was born at 40+2 weighing 7lbs 8oz!

I have five friends/family members in the last few years all being told they were having huge babies, growth scans and in some cases early induction due to concerns over baby’s size. In ALL cases they were significantly out. As in, were told to expect 9-10lb babies and had 7lb babies. I know it’s not the biggest sample size but based on that my advice would be try not to panic too much at this stage and remember that it’s not always accurate, they can - and do - get it wrong. Xx

Thanks mylullaby that is reassuring. Hoping I’m one of the inaccurate ones!! xx

Growth scan at 36 weeks - told he weighed 7lb exactly

Born at 40+1 - weighted 6lb 9.5oz

So not correct for me!

Thanks Wednesday, that’s good to know it can be so off! X

My DS measured two weeks ahead consistently after 20wk. At 39wk they estimated 10lb. He was born 39+5 at 9lb 10oz so they were only 6oz off. He was 95th centile for height and is still 91st now and 75th for weight.

I had a growth scan at 37 weeks was told he weighed aprox 7lb 4, he was born at 39+4 weeks weighing 8lb 7 :)

xx

my charts are indicating baby will be big too but I am glad to hear they are not always accurate.

I want a healthy baby but not a destroyed/demolished vag!

I’m hoping they are wrong because my baby is measuring 3lb 5oz at 28 weeks. I will be growing a giant baby otherwise!

My boy will be here by the 1st so will update then if accurate for me or not..! X

You've l had loads of good replies but I thought I'd throw my experience in the mix.

Was told my girl was going to be about 10lb and midwife was worried about delivery. I'm 5ft4 and was my first. She was 6lb 13. They can be so wrong it's funny xx

i had a really high BMI along with loads of complications. They were measuring her 3 and a half weeks ahead of what i was. So she was huge basically. When she was born she was a lovely 6lbs 9oz LOL So far off it was unreal :D xx

So had to have nhs growth scan today and they estimated current weight at 7.8lbs! So assuming a half lb/week gain that’ll put baby at around 8 and a half lbs which I can cope with! Time will tell!

With my third baby I didn't have a growth scan but I had to be scanned at 35weeks as they thought he was breech (he wasn't) and they never mentioned size, now when he arrived he was 13lbs 4oz! Surely the person doing the scan should have noticed how big he was. Haha. Maybe it's a good job I didn't know before hand though.

OMG that's massive. How are you? I bet he was so cute and cuddly though x

May I ask, did he fit into newborn clothing?

He was so cuddle, none if the wrinkly new borness about him. Just so puffy and chunky. I was sat holding him right after the birth thinking he's bigger than my last two! Birth itself surprisingly went fine, just a bit longer than my others, but no issues, even had a water birth. Was great. They think that actually helped me. And no he didn't fit in any of the clothes we'd brought to the hospital. Hehe. Even the hats just kept popping off his head. Had to send hubby out to buy 3-6months clothes. :)
