I found out I was pregnant about 4 hours ago and my world has been turned upside down. I'm 26, suffered with PCOS and I'm pregnant by my 'friend with benefits'... all in the middle of applying for uni next year. I'm just looking for someone who'll listen really which is why I joined this forum. I'm so scared!

Hi, hun welcome to the forum:wave:

There are plenty of friendly ladies on here who can give you advice and lend a sympathetic ear myself included.

hey! welcome and congratulations! im also pregnant for the first time and know how you feel about being terrified although we have different situations and all that!
sometimes life takes us by surprise, my baby wasnt planned either. but for both of us this is gunna be the most exciting journey of our entire lives! :)

Totally hijacking this young lady's thread, but I can't sleep! Went from crazy tired last night to not being able to sleep a wink tonight. Too much going on in my noggin I reckon. Hope you feel better! xx

Sorry for hijacking xxxx
I get that alot. Try counting sheep lol xxx

Can't sleep. Scouring the net for advice on benefits to see if I can still study next obviously baby will be only a month old by the time uni rolls around, so if I lucky enough to get a place, I'd have to defer 6 months. I've worked since I was 16, I don't even know if I'm entitled to benefits or tax credits or paid maternity leave with my new employer . I'm so so scared!

Hi hun. I'm also 26 with PCOS and pregnant with my first :)

Could u not apply for uni to start in 2013? That way u would have plenty of time to get settled with baby? If u don't wanna put it off, speak to ur parents and baby's dad to see if they would help out? U could also look into doin ur course part time so it's not as intense as the full time course.

All the ladies on pf r lovely and u will get plenty of support here, whether ur asking questions or just having a rant!!

Wishing u a happy and healthy pregnancy

Hey Hun, welcome to the forum. Dont worry about uni, if necessary you can postpone your start date for another year. That's what I had to do due to a medical problem.

Hi & welcome

I hope someone can give you some advice etc.

Congratulations on your pregnancy i have heard people with pcos are lucky to conceive without help sometimes. I hope your friend is going to be a big help once you both get over the shock.

You will get child benefit. As your working you will be entitled to at least the government minimum maternity pay http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTa...ort/Expectingorbringingupchildren/DG_10018741
You will get working tax credits if your working or if by then your living with a partner and you/partner works more than 16 hrs a week. You can also be entitled to tax credits without the working tax element. You need a calculator really to put your circumstances in. If your renting you might be entitled to housing benefit.
Have a google entitled to and a calculator should come up somewhere.

rebecca - your pretty much in the same situation as me... Ive put uni of now for a year or 2 but i am working...

You need to decide if this is what you want, i knew instantly that i wasnt getting an abortion and the father isnt pleased and isnt much involved unfortunately. Is your "friend" wanting to be nvolved? The sooner you tell him the easier it will get. Roughtly do you know how far alog you are?

ive onyl had 6-7 weeks to deal with it and it still feels like my whole world is being tipped upside down but its also exciting.

This place has been like a saviour to me since i found out, no matter how little or big the issue is.

xxx

Once the shock has settled down and you've spoken to the father you'll probably find you have a clearer idea of what you want to do. Life throws many curve balls but there's always a way around them. We weren't trying for a baby yet as we've only just moved back from abroad and I've just started a Masters as well as working fulltime. I'm currently the main earner and will only be entitled to Maternity Pay which won't even cover our rent so will have to go back to work very soon after the baby is born. So we were pretty shocked and wondered what we were going to do, but after the shock had settled we've thought of ways around it such as me spreading my course over 3 years instead of 2 and sharing childcare so we can both still work. It's tricky but in the future you'll look back and laugh and it won't seem so bad. I'm now so happy to be having this baby and know that whatever happens and how ever tough it gets life always works out.
Good luck and so whatever you think is right! x
P.S. Just a word of warning though...trying to write essays whilst unbelievably tired in pregnancy is tough!! Can't begin to imagine what it will be like after the baby is born!!

I was applying to start uni next Sept too but baby will only be a month old so am still going to apply for sept 12 and when I go for the interview just say i didn't know I was preg at the time of the application cos it's still pretty early but I would like to defer a year if successful! I would definitely advise you to speak to the father of baby and then decide what is best for you. Your life will be changed around when the baby comes along and you need all the support you can get! xxx
