Pregnancy and hernia

Hi, I am now 12 weeks pregnant with my first child. I had a painful hernia, and did a hernia repair surgery at Shouldice hospital a year back. Now that I am pregnant I am worried that the hernia might reappear. I have heard horror stories about women dealing with hernia during their delivery. Is there anything I can do to make sure I won't get it? What are the possibilities of getting it again during pregnancy?

I'm glad you've posted this - I am currently ttc but I have an umbilical hernia and I am also a tad worried about being pregnant with it - I hope you find the answers you're looking for and with any luck you won't have it reoccur! X
