Hey ladies, I have reached the 8 week mark with a healthy heartbeat so am treating myself to a book. Until now I have refrained incase the worst should happen but now I want to get 'gen'd up'... any recommendations for a good pregnancy/newborn read? x

Thanks JulyBug, I too am completely clueless, and weirdly had been looking at that one just today so it's good that it's one I've seen! Does it address both pregnancy and early parenting?

Hey sorry to jump on, I was going to go with the Classic What to expect when you're expecting.... Do you think thats any good? or a little outdated ?x

I bought a baby and toddler book and I read the baby bit whilst pregnant with my first and then my husband used it to prop up his computer monitor!

To be honest, this forum was the best "book" for me, anything I didn't know I just asked and I jumped around the different sections x

Be really, really careful with pregnancy books as many still contain the whole 10 movements a day is normal, and movement slows down at the end of pregnancy. That theory is now outdated and very, very wrong, so please always remember that if your baby's movement changes (either increases or decreases), always get checked at your maternity assessment unit. Every mother feels like they're wasting mw time but you never, ever are, it's always so much better to get baby's hb and movement checked at the unit. Never use a home doppler as a substitute for mw checks with a change in movement, always go in.

Have a look at Kicks Count on Facebook and google, tons of really good info on what to expect with baby's movement.

Congratulations on reaching the hb milestone!

Hi, i got the what to expect on a friend's recommendation. It was alright. Plenty of information &a good go to but wasn't overly impressed with it. It says it has been regularly updated so information shouldn't be too out of date. From memory it starts of with chapters on pre-conception &follows through until after. I do remember being a bit disappointed though that was probably cuz my friend said she couldn't have done without it. I found i had already read most of stuff on internet so wasn't as impressed with it.

The one I recommended has a small section on pregnancy but is mostly about those first few weeks and all the basics which I found really helpful! I also bought a separate pregnancy book but like others have said it was a bit outdated and haven't really read it!

I am a believer in 'learning on the job' lol but it had certainly made me feel a little more ready! Lol xx

How To Grow A Baby And Push It Out by Clemmie Hooper is fab!
