This is somewhat a pointless thread but I just wanted to praise one of the midwives at my hospital. She was working when I went to the fetal assessment unit on Friday with my 3rd episode of reduced movement. I was on my own and felt a bit apprehensive because an instinct told me that something was slightly off. I didn't think it was anything bad, just knew something different.
I was right because obviously in the past couple of days she had turned breech.
When I went on the tour of delivery suite, it looked a bit run down compared to the rest of the hospital which has been built brand new and I was kind of put off, BUT the staff ive come across in the last couple of days have gone above and beyond.
The midwife who scanned me to confirm breech had finished for the day. She had got changed and turned off the ultrasound and closed up her room, yet upon hearing baby might be breech she came back as she was leaving and scanned me giving the confirmation of breech diagnosis. She didn't need to do that, she could of easily have gone home and I'd be waiting until tomorrow for a diagnosis and instead because of her, I'm having the baby tomorrow.
The other midwife is the one who initially diagnosed breech by the feel of the bump. She was absolutely lovely and sat and explained everything as she coul see I was so shocked - despite the fau being so busy and her having a back log of paperwork to deal with. (the fau was so busy they couldn't take any more patients and had to tell them to phone back or go to delivery suite)
Yesterday I had to go into Triage to have a reassurance ctg because of reduced movement. That midwife wasn't on triage but she heard I was in and came down especially to see how I was getting on. She wanted to make sure that I wasn't all "mouth and fingernails" like I was Friday and wanted to meet the hubby. She also gave me the thumbs up having a quick glance at the ctg before saying she'd see me Monday and leave the triage midwife to do my ctg.
Again, I feel that was above and beyond what she her job requires her to do and I found it really reassuring to feel so looked after..
I know this is a rambling post, but honestly there are amazing midwives doing their jobs, even if the hospital surroundings feel a bit shabby and outdated.
Just to add, when I get out of hospital I'm going to write to the trust praising those that I've come into contact with - I figure they get lots of complaints so why not a compliment instead
